panik: (Don't Google)

[livejournal.com profile] karieflybabe has tagged me to do this meme. I usualy ignore tags as impertinent and, evidence to the contrary, I find talking about myself tedious but if I weren't doing this I'd only be hanging in the bus shelter in a pink anorak with a can of White Lightning shouting insults at ramblers.

What are your nicknames?
I don’t think I have any. My sister calls me many things, most of them unintelligible.

How do you style your hair?

Ha ha ha! You havin’ a laugh?

What's new in your life right now?
Nothing. Really. Big Hairy Ruts are the story of my life. The Permaculture diploma, I suppose tho I haven't really started it yet; I’m hoping that’ll be exciting and lead to all kinds of sparkly new adventures. I’m planning a trip to India that may or may not happen. I’m going to see the Mighty Boosh live. I suppose that’s a few new things. I hope there’ll be a lot more in 2009. I have made plans. I have expectations. ::nods conspiratorially:: And it's Christmas soon of course - new Who, new Jonathan Creek and Wallace and Grommit and gosh, everything. brilliant. *g*

How many colors are you wearing now?
Three. Black, red and white – and beige, if you include my fluffy slippers (nb. Learn to spell colour).

Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Depends on the context

What was the last book you read?
The last books I finished were An Accidental Light, The Vesuvius Club and The Domino Effect – all finished last Sunday. I always read 3 books a week. Currently I'm about to finish Reckless Engineering, The Piano Teacher (much better than the womanly cover led me to believe) and  A Time to Every Purpose Under Heaven; a novel on the nature of angels and the ways of man’ by Karl O Knausgaard. trans. From the Norwegian which sounded intruiging but turns out to be a re-write of Genesis set in Norway and  unbelievably turgid and dire. I swore to give it to the half-way point (that took some doing I can tell you) but have now given up on it. I shall fill my days reading Russy's Booky Wook instead.

Do you nap a lot?
Almost never. I have no talent for sleep.

If the person you secretly like is already taken, what would you do?
Know that the cosmos is working as normal. We have not slipped into a parallel universe or anything scary like that.

Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Losing my mum, losing my Dad in essence (he has had a couple of strokes and isn’t the person he was) and subsequently losing much of the life which I’d previously rather enjoyed. Hey ho, stuff happens, such is life. Nothing is forever and etc.

What's your favorite dessert?
I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I usually choose cheese rather than pudding, otherwise proper, homemade raspberry trifle or coconut ice cream; Christmas pudding and cream at Christmas (but no other time. I love it to bits but some things are of their time and place and shouldn’t be taken out of their proper context (see also retsina, grits and fried plantains).

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
10 mins, if not hurling weights about (and I’ve not been doing much of that lately hence the grate swelling of my person). It’s boring, isn’t it? All that dreary getting-ready business. It’s only having John Humphries for company that gets me through it at all, tbh.

What websites do you visit daily?
In the order they’re placed on my toolbar. BBC news,  Reuters, The Guardian, The (ooh! Dirty li’l secret!) Daily Mail (meets my need for sleeze), New Scientist, Nat Geog, Amazon.co.uk, Goodreads, 3 writer’s sites, Ricky Gervais’s blog, Graham Linehan’s blog, astrodienst, astronomy picture of the day, Yahoo mail, LJ. It's true. I waste a lot of time.

What classes are you taking right now? And if you're not in school any more, what's your job? (and if you don't have a job, what the HELL do you do all day?)
No job, no school. I write. That’s what I do, honestly! and I read books for review. and I’m doing the Permaculture diploma but that’s hardly a daily thing

Do you like to clean?
I refer you to my answer to q. 2.

What's the last song that got stuck in your head?
The Arnold Rimmer song, in the car, driving over and again, now (Ooh! Shiny, this one has exciting subtitles!)

What's the last movie you saw?
Garden State which left me wondering - why do spo many reviewers claim this as a masterpiece? It's Napoleon Dynamite without the jokes (and nothing like as clever or good, imo). It was OK but I wouldn't put it in my top 500. I'm just about to watch Ghostown aamof, when the DVD fires up. ::is excited::

What's better: eternal love or memorable love?
All love is good love but eternal is a nice concept. Depends on your philosophies regarding eternity really. And memory.

What is your least favorite thing to do that you have to do everyday?
I hate cleaning, shopping, getting dressed and all that but I despise negativity so I'm going to give you my most favourite thing to do that I do everyday which is early morning when I read my review books, over coffee. Sometimes the books are great, sometimes not. I don't choose them you see, so there's always the element of excitement, especially Monday mornings when I start anew.  But there are lots of things about my daily routine I love. My life is pretty joyful, on the whole, despite my endless moaning.

Best time of your life?
Urm. I need to make a list. I’m old, I done lots of stuff. Too lazy to do that tho, so you will have to use your imagination.
