From Hell was a great movie but it didn't come with the same literary baggage (I like the literary baggage!) and was much less 'in your face' with the action as I recall. I admit, action films don't do it for me. There seemed precious little of the 'real' Holmes (or indeed Watson) in this at all, it was just all action all the time and I ached for something to engage my brain. Just not my thing - but then the things that set the flist on fire so rarely are these days, sadly.
