I have to go and work now, though, which is a shame, especially considering the work (stripping the top layer off a stone kitchen floor with v unpleasant chemicals). Girding my loins and donning protective body armour...

It's an A Team fic called "Something Broken", available at www.ateamfanfic.org Just look for me under "Val Thomas". The second half is tentatively called "Shattered"
