All very boring - no need to comment.
I just spent all day (literally all day, since quite early this morning) working on another agency submission. Having read that, in some writer's opinions, it's easier to get published than get an agent, I think, if it doesn't work out this time, I'm going to start the even-more-soul-destroying-than-submitting-work-to-agents business of sending stuff to the publisher's slush pile. And self-publish, definitely. I see Stephen Clarke's 'A Year in the Merde' was self-pud'd and got its rep online before he got taken on. It does seem the way to go.

And I'm trying to write a screenplay based on the Great Unpublished Novel; been doing a little reading - It doesn't seem terribly complicated, easier by far, imo, than writing for radio (which is damn hard!). The worst bit is deciding which bits to cut. There's a chapter that takes place at a party at the home of the US 'Ambassador' (the US doesn't have an Ambassador in Cuba, just someone who is one really, but pretends not to be. He is, officially, the Head of the US Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland'. I just find 'US Ambassador' more user-friendly, if not strictly accurate) which is one of the best chapters in the book, but it's so clippable... Oh man; it's killing me but it has to go.

As to why I'm writing a screenplay... Well, why not? It passes the time; keeps me out of trouble.

I'm trying to start a new novel, too. I have 2 sketched out. I can't decide which I really want to go with.

Then there's the fic. Two fics, both calling to me...

In other news... We just got back from Mum and Dad's yesterday afternoon - God, it felt good to be home! Then I got a call from my sister this morning to say the doctor saw mum this morning for the swelling that's developed in her right leg and he thinks it's a clot. She's gone off back to the hospital in an ambulance for a scan. If she has to stay in - which she almost certainly will have to, at least for a day or two - we'll have to drive back tonight. ::sighs deeply:: I was just starting to unwind a little; just starting to get some real work done... Oh man. We have half a dozen appointments that'll have to be cancelled, I just took delivery of a fridge full of groceries...

Keeping it all crossed that it's nothing to worry about.

Such is my life on this, the 24th day of September, year of Our Lord 2007.

ETA:
Hilary rang an hour ago, Mum's home - she's been in for hours having test after test... Tis not a clot, it is edema which is, of course Not Good, but a to-be-expected occasional complication of heart failure. They've decided there's no immediate cause for alarm and they're not keeping her in (usually they do at the drop of a hat, so I'm taking this as good news), they've adjusted her meds. Hilary says Mum seems fine and there's no need to go rushing over.

Anyway. It means I can keep to my work schedule, which is... good. I guess.

It's a difficult time. glad your mum is ok and that it wasn't a clot although it's still a worry isn't it.

Look after yourself too. We'll keep sending good vibes and thoughts and wishes back and forth and hopefully they'll multiply and we can all have a good share of them.

*Hugs*

It's a bad time for us both, honey.

"We'll keep sending good vibes and thoughts and wishes back and forth and hopefully they'll multiply and we can all have a good share of them."
That's a nice thought. Sending those sugar, rainbow vibes bouncing your way.

I'm glad that your mother is OK. Clots are much more dangerous than heart failure. Heart failure can be controlled by drugs. Blood clots, which also can be controlled by medications, are life threatening. If a clot breaks loose and ends up in the lungs or the brain, it's a very serious matter. I sitting here cheering that it was heart failure!

Being new to your journal, I am impressed with your ability to crank out fiction. I can write, but I cannot write fiction. I am in awe of your creativity.

Well gosh.::blushes:: I'm in awe of your talent for parrots. That, to me, is much more awesome. (o:

Mum has been ill for so long, really, the smallest things, like not having a blood clot in her leg, are a cause for joy. I'm just so glad she doesn't have to go back in the hospital (thanks for your good wishes, btw; they're much appreciated).

Thanks babe - one more to do, tomorrow then it's on with the new stuff, like the fic. (o:

Oh, I'm glad to hear that the stuff with your Mom wasn't too serious...even if working is bleah, you and Mark deserve some down time at home for a while...

Thanks for the good wishes, hon. Work is OK, just... how you say - confused. It's hard to get a run at anything when the rest of life is so unpredictable and disorganised. I ache for a bit of calm routine.

Down time would be nice. V nice, but unlikely to happen. With mum so sick, I think the planned trip to California is off. ::sigh:: I was really looking forward to that.

With all this going on, its probably a good thing your not trying to move everyone to a new location. Hope you get some peace before having to go back.
Thinking of you

Hey honey, how are you? How was the holiday?

Re Mum, dad, the move/whole caboodle - it's very hard to keep momentum on anything right now. Mum still talks about us moving together but, in all honesty, I just can't see it happening; too much work needs doing and mum's too ill and dad too confused... It's a real strain for everyone.

I'm in the middle of tweaking the first 3 chapters of my novel prior to sending it out to an agency in Paris ::is glad of the interruption:: (o:

Better get back to it, though - not much more to do and when the old stuff is back in circulation I can get my head around some new projects.

Glad you're back safe.

Sorry I'm late with this - Mondays and Tuesdays suck me into the black hole of doom... ::mutter mutter::

Hope your mum is loads better, bless her. She must be getting heartily sick of the inside of hospitals, and you must be knackered being perpetually on standby to cope.

Fingers crossed you all get a break.

::hugs you gently, and passes over the booze, just in case::

Edema is not good but nothing like clots. She needs to keep her feet up when she can - higher than her heart. It sounds simple but it is hard to get around to doing it but it works wonders! I know!
