I got up at five; Dad suddenly, inexplicably, turned on his TV at 4.20 and woke me. I lay there for a bit, hoping to go back to sleep but was very much awake and liable to remain so and, knowing how too much thinking in the early hours tends to lead to mental kerfuffle and resultant panic, I dragged myself up and sat in the dark, by the soothing light of the Christmas tree and started working on the Academy story again. I've been reading it through, trying to remind myself where I'd got to and where I was heading when I had to stop. I had wild hopes of finishing it over the holidays so I could start a new fic and my new novel all afresh in the New Year. ::cue hollow laugh::
Angel Dust, the second part of the Chasing Rainbows trilogy is all done and beta'd and currently with the wonderfully patient Debbie Tripp who won it for Moonridge back in 2006. It'll be up for public consumption on 21st January when I can hopefully - depending on how quickly the Owl story moves along - start part three - Heaven knows those Rainbows 3 community people have been waiting long enough for their story.
Looking at it sensibly, the Academy/Owl tale seems about half-done. Currently standing at 38,042 words and a few pages of disjointed notes (all prettily colour-coded and easy to organise - ::pets self for forsight::) I reckon it's going to be a long story ('NO!' the crowd roars, sarcastically). Taking into account all the things that J&B have still to sort out together, some flashbacks to their angsty recent pasts, plus the tedious business of finishing up what passes for a plot (I know, I know, but you've gotta have something to hang all that angst on) I'm guessing the final tally is going to be around 70,000 words (but may be more).
Re-reading from the start is giving me fresh perspectives. The song that opened the story really is full of poignancy for a TS fic, isn't it?
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the moneys gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground...
Hmmm. Muses...
If you're one of those who're in this community, readin' this WIP, be assured, I'm back on with it and hoping to start writing tomorrow, once I'm all caught up.

Way to make a gurl blush.
Ooh, I'm very far from awesome. If I'm here in Yorkshire (and I am), then awesome is probably somewhere on the outer reaches of the Horse-Head nebula... (but thanks for the kind words *g*)

::giggling uncontrollably::
I'm so glad you liked Rainbows - I hope you like Angel Dust; as I seem to keep telling people, it's an awful lot darker than CR.
Re: Way to make a gurl blush. (hey nothing wrong with a little ego stroking *g*)
Heh, have you read my stuff at all? I think the best way to describe my writing would be quirky... *g*
And as for Angel Dust being darker - not a problem for me, I rather like dark - I only ask that the dark makes sense rather than being dark simply for the sake of being dark (if that made any sense at all :P)
