Yay ::waves fist feebly in air::

Me and my sister went to the Penistone Show (as seen on Look North! *g*) yesterday. I took many pictures. Here be some...

Check out the enormous onion! Nowt to do with us, but it won first prize and
kinda sets the scene for what follows...

...Like this Chrysanth of vast proportions. Yes indeedy. This is the sort of thing the people of Penistone will get up to unless
physically restrained. This one was grown by our neighbour. (o:

Honey! And mead. And some actual bees. But not a beard of bees, that would be much too exciting.
I've always wanted to se a beard of bees, too. I must continue to live in hope.

For [livejournal.com profile] snailbones !Cheesy Delights. They had Stinking Bishop, but I bought a wodge of amazing, stinky ewe's milk blue
from Wensleydale and very nice it was too.

OUTRAGE!!! Is this Yorkshire? Which soft-as-shite Southern bastards perpetrated this horror on our lovely
Northern show?

Ah. That's more like it...

Yes. I'm starting to feel better now.
This guy's actually from my other home town of Chorley! I bought a veggie black puddn' off him. Haven't tried it yet though.

And when you've had too much cheese, black puddings and ice cream...

Ha ha ha. Naw, not really. On first, beer-addled glance, I thought that's what it said. Photoshopped, sadly.
It was goody bag, in case you were wondering.

I have more. I'll bet you can't wait.

Nothing says Ice Cream better than a giant facsimile cow made of fibreglass.

I was so boggled by the though of a veggie black pudding that I've spent the last 5 minutes learning all about the subj via google. :-) I'll be curious to hear what you think of it!

Gave me chapter and verse. He was quite enthused about it (as my sister quoted Eric Olthwaite at him).

What a very cool show! Thanks for sharing pics of it with us!

That flower looks like some of our dahlias. Pretty! *g*

I loves the show, I do! That flower was the size of a diner plate, huge it was!

My sister only entered 4 wines this year and took a 1st, 2nd and 3rd - the 3rd won by a wine she only made this year - the elderbery nouveau. heh. She failed to take the trophy this year though (and there was much rejoicing) *g*

How could she win 1st, 2nd and 3rd and NOT get the trophy???

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 07:01pm on 15/09/2008
There are lots of different categories - she hasn't made much wine this year so she only entered 3 sweet whites and a dry red. She took 3rd for the red and 1st & 2nd for two of the sweet whites.

The trophy goes to the best wine of all - she's won it 3 years running, time for someone else to take the crown. (o:. Seriously, we were pleased - we've never known what to do with the thing. *g*

Ah. I see. Like Best of Show! =>}

Did she get a new trophy each time, to keep or is it one you give back every year for the next winner?

Still, I think a row of trophies for wine on the shelf would be cool. *g*

It's one big silver trophy and you have to give it back each year. We're drinking the rose-hip now - the only one that didn't win a rize, but best of all as far as I'm concerned. Each to their own I guess. (o

That's often the way.

I hope she gets SOME kind of souvenir of her wins. =>}
