...at eight in the morning to beat the insanity of the last-Saturday-before Crimbo, which we did, but only just (we only wanted a few last minutey things like the rum I forgot for the truffles, yum. :o), parsnips and extra mince pies (you can never have too many). When we left at 8.30, the car park was full and the shop was getting that aura of barely-restrained panic, of incipient violence, like it's all on a hair-trigger and could all kick off at any second - a bit like the Paul O'Grady show (I swear they ply those old biddies with drink)

Yea Gods, people, it's like - two days, you know?!

But it's done. It's all done. I'm on my sofa with a buttered potato cake and a mug of strong coffee, preparing myself for the rigours of the day ahead, prepping my novel, writing fic, eating gingerbread and drinking port.

I hope everyone is in fine fettle. Have a mince pie and a glass of sherry, I'm sure you deserve one.

the fact the Britain has Aldi to makes me laugh so hard, because it's such a very Belgian word/thing. Aldi is a very... marginal place round here, and we always associate it with very Belgian marginal people and a very whacked-up pronunciation of the word Aldi. when I first went to Britain, one of the first things I saw was an Aldi store and I went 'oh;.. FUCK.'.

Nothing wrong with Aldi!

It used to have that cheap, shop for people off the estate rep here too, but it's shaking that off a bit now. It's a good store! I love their mince pies and chocolate and they do the cheapest Toblerones around.

Mad-crazy at the shops here today too, but errands accomplished without injury or risk to life or limb. Now having...well, not quite mince pie and sherry, more like M&Ms and gin. Works for me.

We're hitting the roads today. That'll be fun.

M&Ms and gin? Interesting... *g*

Sofa basking is, indeed, one of life's greatest joys. We're hitting the M62 today. Karmic piper's must be paid.

We're hitting the M62 today.

I have been intimate with the M5 today... it wasn't pretty, it wasn't nice, but the bugger had to be faced.

oh great, now you've put the fear in me about my own trip to Aldi which won't be until about 10:30. :-(

I assume you survived? Shopping on the last Sat. before Christmas... not usually to be advised.

I was just saying to J. that I had to bake up the mincemeat tarts (with jarred mincemeat and bought tart shells) to have with some sherry! =>}

Enjoy the season! =>}

I too braved the grocery store today. What a madhouse! But the shopping is finished. The only things I have to go back to the stores for now are beer and decaf tea. I'm *DONE!!!!!*

::twirls::

I have baked two of seven different kinds of cookies this evening. The rest will finish up tomorrow, along with the gift wrapping. Right now, it's tea with bourbon and peanut butter cookies.

Mmmmm. Enjoy that sherry!

I'll leave the sherry for Santa, thanks, I can't stand the stuff, but a nice mince pie with a glass of port is very heaven.

Wow, that's a lot of baking! I take it your family are big on cookies? *g*
