I'm in a real quandry about me website.

I just got the renewal notice; it's gone up again and the current exchange rate means it's going to cost me over £100 to keep it on for another year  and I'm wondering what to do. TBH, I've pretty much lost interest in the thing. The message board is moribund, the chat has moved on. Aside from the downloads, practically no one visits it anymore.

I could get free-space and move a lot of the text-based stuff there but obviously, if I did that, the galleries and the downloads would have to go.

So, I suppose what I'm asking is, does anyone really care? Would it be massively missed if it disappeared, because I admit, I'm tempted to just let it go.

ETA. Looking at the comments, it does seem all anyone's really interested in is the fate of the downloads. Maybe some other arrangement can be made to host these on another website (though be aware that it requires a lot of memory and bandwidth)? It does look like the rest of the site can go because it doesn't seem  that anyone will miss it at all.

Yeesh, that's a lot - I didn't realize this was costing you so much. I love having all my fic together on your site (in a theoretical way, since I haven't done much lately in the way of sending you stuff), but I do feel less needy now that I can put it all at ASR3 (again, in a purely theoretical way since I'm just as behind uploading there). So I definitely wouldn't want you paying that much just for that.

The downloads are really popular and recommended a lot, but that's still an awful lot of money for you. I'd vote for trying to find a cheaper option. How much memory and bandwidth does it take? Because Jason and I have a site that is doing absolutely nothing right now. I might need some technical help with the uploading and all, but it's possible that we could host them.

I'm also happy to help with the taking down and putting back up, if you decide to do that somewhere else.

The fic and the reports are safe, I can move elsewhere, somewhere cheaper or even - O:! - free. :o) It's the add-ons and the downloads that cost the money. The chat and the message board and the interactive stuff are dead, no one's gonna miss them when tey're gone. The downloads are, to be frank, a continuous thorn in my side. People have such an attitude about them, like I'm making such a load of dosh from them, you know? ::roll:: I've mused on dropping the site for some time, as you know, and every time I moot this the only thing anyone cries out about are the blasted downloads and - I'm fed up with it.

If you think you'd enjoy hosting them, you're more than welcome babe. It does require a lot of web-space and you'll need to keep an eye on your bandwidth but, if you want to take on the thankless task you're more than welcome. Rhianne's also offered space - maybe between us we can work something out.

As for the rest of the site, I had terrific joy from it in the early days but in all honestly, things haven't worked out with it the way I wanted and some of what's happened has caused me enormous hurt. I'm sorry some people will be sad to see it go but I really think I'll be a much happier person when it is no more.
