I'm in a real quandry about me website.

I just got the renewal notice; it's gone up again and the current exchange rate means it's going to cost me over £100 to keep it on for another year  and I'm wondering what to do. TBH, I've pretty much lost interest in the thing. The message board is moribund, the chat has moved on. Aside from the downloads, practically no one visits it anymore.

I could get free-space and move a lot of the text-based stuff there but obviously, if I did that, the galleries and the downloads would have to go.

So, I suppose what I'm asking is, does anyone really care? Would it be massively missed if it disappeared, because I admit, I'm tempted to just let it go.

ETA. Looking at the comments, it does seem all anyone's really interested in is the fate of the downloads. Maybe some other arrangement can be made to host these on another website (though be aware that it requires a lot of memory and bandwidth)? It does look like the rest of the site can go because it doesn't seem  that anyone will miss it at all.

I'll have a look over the next few days - it being Christmas and all - and see how it might best be done. I've already sorted out some likely looking free space for my fic and things like the Burgi-golf reports and all. I'm not sure what to do about the galleries, I haven't updated them in an age, I'm not sure how many people access them now - not many I think (tbh, they've never worked well in front page and I got fed up with trying to make other formats work within the clunky old-hat set up of the site as a whole). I have all the images backed up so I could reload them if required.

The dl's - I'll have to log into Powweb and check the stats. If you decide to go ahead, it'll probably be easiest to just give you ftp access to the temple and you can drag and drop them to your own site.

Let me know what you want to do. I've told Powweb I'm not renewing. The site will cease to be on Jan 10th so there's plenty of time.I'll start backing stuff up I'm going to want to keep and I'll make the announcement that it's going. I await the howls of disbelief and rage with mild anticipation. :o)

It is a shame to see it go, I'm incredibly sad about it but I think, in the end, it'll be a huge relief. The emails- you wouldn't believe how some people regard the downloads. I get lots of shouty emails; 'this isn't working... this stops halfway... I can't get this to work... WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?!' I also get a lot of impertinent advice on how my site could be bettered.I've been asked several times why I don't provide all the files in several formats. I used to respond with moderation and patience but lately I've been getting a little more direct. :o) All the dl's work,I check them regularly. Of course, I hadn't even considered till recently that the reason so many people are having drop-out troubles is because the buggers have been streaming them. You might want to zip them, or disable the options on that (as I should have done) if you really want to take on this thankless task, hon.

Anyway, I shall stop complaining about it now. *g* Sadly, the deed is done, all over now bar the shouting, tho I expect there'll be quite a of of that.:o)

Thanks again for offering to help, honey, the appreciation, it is great.

Will you get notified by your website provider if people are streaming downloads from your site? I'm prepaid until 2010, and I wasn't sure if 'streamers' would cause damage or cause me to have to pay more....?

Personally I think the FTP idea is great.

I am SO appreciative of you providing the DL's. :-)

Good luck on your decision!

No, I only found out because so many people were complaining about drop-outs and incomplete eps and on further quizzing, I suddenly realised they were trying to watch them live on the website. Which was a bit of a shocker. :o) No one informed me,it's not illegal to dl from the site but it has had serious effects on my bandwidth. If I'd kept the site going I'd have had to pay for more.

Hi honey, I hope you had a great Christmas! It's nice to still have New Year to look forward to, isn't it? ;-)

LOL! You're really selling it to me... ;-) It always amazes me the sense of entitlement that people in fandom often have about things like this. Thank you for being honest about the kind of trouble you've had, though.

I've thought about this over Christmas, and I hope you're not too disappointed if I change my mind about hosting the downloads? I'm trying to limit the various draws on what little spare time I have, in the vague and desperate hope that I might suddenly find that I have time to actually do some writing or vidding in the near future! I have a feeling that taking on this responsibility is kind of going to be counter that aim. Not to mention that I suspect I'd be far less moderate and patient with people sending me those kinds of emails than you are! ::shudders:: I find that 'entitlement' side of fandom irritating enough, without setting myself in the direct line of fire.

So if you don't mind, I'll say that I won't step in and take on the downloads. Sorry honey :-( I hope you're not too disappointed.

On a happier note, have a great New Year!

Tb entirely H, none of it is any skin of my nose babe. I'm trying to find a new home for them because so many people reckon they need them but if a home can't be found - ::shrug:: c'est la vie. Peeps will have to manage without them. Do I sound bitter? Probably because I am. *g*

In all honesty, I'm fed up to the back teeth with it all. A couple of people have said they might like to host them, we are currently in negotiations. I'm just glad it won't be me any more. ::has had it up to here with fandom::

So no, not disappointed and totally understandable babe. Thanks for taking the time to think about it anyway. I hope you're having a happy new year and all. XXX
