These are beautiful. When I think of England, it's usually views like these that come to mind. I'm still hoping I get to visit the UK before I shuffle off my mortal coil *G*.

Please! Come here, I mean and please to not be shuffling off teh mortal coils any time soon! *g*

The pix were oh so tiny for some reason. I have fixed them.

TBH, it's not terribly typical of the UK in that:
a)the sun is shining
b) There is snow.

Usually it's all grey and green and wet and shiny. :o) But i do love the snow and we get more here, oop north on't' moors than most places. We would love to have you visit, btw. *g*

Who are all these people your streets seem to be named for - Polly, Matthew, Old Anna? They're beginning to write a novel in my head....

Ooh, that sounds really exciting! I haven't a clue I'm afraid. They're just names, you know...

Oh wow! You really have got snow!

Pretty piccies, thank you - and I love the place names, especially Old Anna Lane.

They were all tiny and wee for some reason - I have fixed it.

I expect you have some silly/pritty names your way too, old rural-type places tend towards such pleasing nonsenses. :o)

Yep - we have many Piddles round these parts, always good for making little boys snigger. *g*

I love the skies this time of year - when it's clear, that is. I took these at about 11am - it's clouded over again now, looks like we're in for a lot more snow. I can't decide if this is a bad thing (in that we can't drive anywhere) or a good (I loves snow! *g*)

posted by [identity profile] rainbowchicken.livejournal.com at 06:10pm on 05/01/2009
heh I know the feeling. The first year we lived here, we had two feet (just over half a meter) of snow in one weekend. It was beautiful, but we couldn't even get the front door open. lol

Now this is how I like snow: in pictures or far, far away from me. :oD

Beautiful pictures though, Gilly. Very serene.

Thanks for sharing!

I loves snow I do. If it's cold and dry (hate it when it gets wet n slushy)

Don't you have any then? Our webcams show plenty in Withnell.

posted by [identity profile] arnie1967.livejournal.com at 07:29pm on 05/01/2009
Nope. 'Tis cold out there, and fairly icy (ground frost), but no snow as yet. Apparently we'll get sleet on Wednesday though.

Sleet. Ick! The worst weather there is. You have my most abject pity. :o)

I haven't seen snow like that in years. Being in the north island probably has something to do with it. :-)

I love snow. It's been a lovely winter so far, cold and dry for the most part - the frosty-snow is just a bonus. Very different from the hideous wet summer/autumn you experienced at such close quarters. :o)

Beautiful.
I love the stone walls and gates. The snow and frost looks pretty much the same as here. Cold!
Back garden, I love that! We have a back yard with neatly plowed paths to the sheds.Very boring.

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 07:18pm on 05/01/2009
I'm glad you enjoyed them. Tbh I think snow is cold wherever you find it. I think yours is probably colder than ours, though. ;o)

Isn't a yard just the American word for garden? I always assumed so (have I been - heaven forfend - wrong all these years? *G*)
ext_9267: (Default)
posted by [identity profile] aerianya.livejournal.com at 07:30pm on 05/01/2009
Probably.
And now I shall call my back yard my back garden(because it sounds so much more romantic) even though I haven't actually planted anything in the actual garden for two years.
Thank you Gilly!
It's -20C(-5F) here today. Hopefully it will warm up to at least -7C (19F)later in the week.
I need to start my car for a while so it will go tomorrow.*sigh

We almost bought a house in Matthew Gap. Gorgeous little house with the most wonderful views but too small, we decided in the end. A pity. I hope you're having delicious weather too, honey. xxx

Ooh look - you had proper snow! We had the tiniest covering this morning, just enough to be white, and absolutely freezing!
Thank you for sharing your snow with us!

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 10:07am on 07/01/2009
No proper snow?! I thought the entire whole north had it? It's been something of a pain in that no rural roads get gritted and the ice was over an inch thick - prisoners in our own homes! And the rising main in Withnell has burst (Mark had United Utilities round at 1am fixing it after a day without water or central heating) but hey ho the nonny! I loves it myself.

How's your weather today? We are grey and dreary today. Snow's still here though and the sky looks full of more of the same and I'm off to Ali's tomorrow. ::wibble::

posted by [identity profile] luicat.livejournal.com at 09:43pm on 07/01/2009
Nope, no snow - and none again today. Just grey and dreary here too, and not as cold thank goodness.
I'm sorry you're having pipe and ice troubles.
The weather and the roads all seem very haphazard at the moment so I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything is okay for your travels.
::sends soothing travel vibes::

That's just so very beautiful! I so love England at any season, but you've really captured it wonderfully, dressed in snow. Thanks for sharing the beauty with us. =>}

Bless. *g* I loves it frosty more than sow but the combo is best iof all - unless you've got to drive anywhere. Prisoners in our own homes! *g*

How about some snowy Canadian pix? :o)

posted by [identity profile] betagoddess.livejournal.com at 04:25pm on 07/01/2009

If we waited for the snow to be gone before going out, we be prisoners for months. *g*

I posted the link to this album in the middle of December, after we had a little ice storm.

Enjoy. That's all the snow pics I have for now. I might take some more later. Our daughter and Benjamin are coming for a visit tomorrow, so we're off (in a slight snow storm) to get groceries. Good thing we have snow tires. =>}

Oh, beautiful English village life! *cries for the beauty of it* And you are saying that snow isn't so common in England? Are all my Dickens-infused fantasies just that? Alas.

I have been to a little Sussex village twice, West Hoathly (near East Grinstead) and am so in love with it all. I want to make many more visits.

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 09:47am on 07/01/2009
Hee. Dickens. hee. You'd be hard-pressed t find much in the UK that resembles Dickens - unless you're talking about the 'orrible grisly murders and inner-city gang crime. ::giggles::

Snow of this type has become, sadly, rare. When I was a kid (ooh, hark at me! *G*) snow would blow off the moors and routinely bury the back of the house in a 30' drift. I remember my mum taking me to school on a sledge...

Not for ages though. We had one very snowy winter in - 97 or 98 I think it was, I was home from Cuba for Xmas - but it's rare. Lately it's been warm and wet; very wet - vile. One global warming model says we're in for hotter summers but much colder winters ::shrug:: Maybe. I won;t mind, I love it, but anything would be better than the endless, incessant rain we got this year.

Next time you come, come north! Come and see me an Arnie an Bev an Luicat an Fingers! All the best people live oop north!

It's my Dad's place and it's beautiful sometimes - not all the time though.

Snow + sun is lovely isn't it? It's turned cloudy and grey today.
