and sitting here, in my room of many lights, watching the unexpurgated version of QI, I find myself in playful, Memeish mood...

Behold, an icon meme! Fun for all the family!

Do any of my icons amuse/puzzle/confuse you? Point the Offending Creature out and I shall endeavour to explain.

Likewise, should you participate in the above, I shall then rudely point at one of yours and demand you explain yourself immediately!

ALSO! Is there an icon out there you think might please me and adapt well to my extensive wardrobe of same?  Plz to be pointing me in its direction for I am in the market for new iconage.

Am I even making sense? After 3 Vic and Bobs, 2 g&ts and an episode of Monkey Trousers, I would be very surprised indeed.

Music:: QI
location: Withnell
Mood:: 'drunk' drunk

OK, I'll play! What's the story behind the one "In the section labeled shirts"?

Also, what is a Vic and Bob?

In the section labelled Shirts shows Mr Viv Stanshall and a line feom the immortal Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band
song In the canyons of your mind
I hope that helps. :o)

Plz to be telling me the mysteries behind your icon 'We giggle because we are awesome' (which I have always admired)

A Vic and Bob = the pair in my icon. A comedy duo. Pure genius.
As seen here

That's from Battlestar Galactica, it's President Laura Roslin and Starbuck. Not only do I love it because I love it, I also love it because you just about never see them laughing like that on the show ;)

I've never seen BG but I do adore the icon; makes me giggle like a loon.

Okay, the one that totally intrigues me and that I've never got is the green-painted person (at least I HOPE it's paint!) demanding whether I've ever drunk Bailey's from a shoe. Always been dying to know what that one is all about.

I doubt you will find any of mine puzzling or amazing. :-) Oh, maybe the scold's bridle ones - I did make those and there is a story behind them. Otherwise, have at it. You might like the fannish inquisition one, although, again, not mine. :-)

That's Old Gregg (I'm Old Gregg! He's a funny scaly man-fish and he's got a mangina - check him out) from The Mighty Boosh - genius comedy combo (who I saw live! in Nottingham last week with [livejournal.com profile] alibongo )

You have some pretty extraordinary icons there my darlin', but I would love to know the story behind Cartoon Jim, if you'd care to explain.

Ah, well, that explains the greenness, for sure! *snicker*

The Cartoon Jim I didn't make, so I can't really explain. It's by mirnell; I can't remember exactly where I got it but probably off jb_daily or maybe ts_iconart. I remember she said she wasn't sure what she'd done to get that effect, but I like it because it looks like a cartoon rendering of Jim. So I use it for Jungle!Jim and other AU-y posts and discussions.

Well, the Boosh ones are a mystery to me.

The Mighty Boosh are Vince Noir and Howard Moon - aka Noel Fielding and Julian Barrett - a comedy duo. If you wanna know more, follow the links in my response to young snycock, above. All the icons refer to the characters and lines from the show

Can you explain your default icon, woman in the woods.

posted by [identity profile] laurie-ky.livejournal.com at 12:18am on 18/01/2009
I shall click on the links to expand my education.

Woman in the Woods is one of lit_gal's icon, and I didn't know it at the time, but it's from an illustration from the Silmarrion ( I probably didn't spell it right), the story of Tinnuvial (again with the spelling) and Beren One-Hand. She's an elvish princess (kind of) that everybody loves for her beautiful singing and dancing and personality. Beren is human and on the lam from big time bad guys, and tired and lost he stumbles on her dancing in the woods and falls in love with her. Much angst and heroing ensures before true love wins. But she becomes mortal and so dies, which makes her story bitter-sweet to the elves.

But, before I knew the history of the illustration, I picked it for my default because I like things that remind me to be joyful, and I am a woman who lives in the woods.

1) Jeezus, woman, you have a lot of icons.

2) Keyword: Shirt

3) Vic and Bob? Monkey Trousers? (I get the G&T--have watched enough J&W to get the ref.)

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 11:26pm on 17/01/2009
1) I do indeed! ::gloats::

2) Already claimed and explained! See my answer to tx_cronopio above.

3) Vic and Bob are a comedy duo (and I must refer you again to the response to tx_cronopio for teh eksplanashun) Monkey Trousers is a TV show written by Vic and, indeed, Bob. (Is J&W, Jeeves and Wooster? What do you call them over there, then? *g*)

I have to say, most of your icons puzzle me but I'd love to know about Fitzroy damned pretty, pretty please.

I dunno about not understanding yours (for the most part I did... which worries me) but you have reminded me that I MUST make some Top Gear ones soon...

I've not made many TG ones myself because there are sooo many pretty ones already knocking about the ether and - no point reinventing the wheel, y'know?

Here's the only one I made myself. ::points up:: Which came from a Mills and Boon mockup from when Hammond was on the Jonathan Ross show and Wossy was being exceedingly slashy admitting (amongst other stuff) that of all the TG presenters he'd most like to anally rape Hamster. This was in context, btw, it wasn't some sort of 'out of the blue admission on Wossy's part. Unfortunately. Heh he heh)

I pretty much get all of yours too, I think (147, huh? Another icon monkey. I need more I tell you, MORE!!!) but what's the story behind the future is by chronographia?

which worries me
Don't be worried, honey chile, clearly, you just have most excellent taste. ::nods::

Oh yes, I'm an icon hoarder (and maker, which is why you see the posts every so often telling folk they can take 'em off my hands :)

The 'future is...' one? One of only 2 or 3 I have by other people, and a neat little injoke about the utterly late 1970's sets they used for Blakes 7 ('cause they couldn't afford much and used what was available. Funnily enough, it now looks less dated than shinier, later SF). That scene in the icon was filmed in a nuclear power plant.

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 10:49am on 18/01/2009
Wasn't it all? Aside from the scenes filmed in the quarry, of course. I love GT's story about the noise interrupting their filming one time turned out to be Doctor Who filming over the ridge - which you have, of course, heard, because like me, you have the DVDs and all the extras. *g*

Thank you for the explanation and yeah - personally I loathe season 4 but it does look a lot better than the Abba in Space earlier eps.

Which makes me think I need a Buddleia icon; most ubiquitous plant in the universe, every planet has one lurking somewhere.

Noo... apparently a lot of the first episode was in mushroom-infested tunnels under London, if I recall correctly :)

I'm with you on the buddleia, and the resultant butterflies (which is why I put flutterbies in quite a few of my stories)

*raises hand*

Please miss, what are the Children of the Gods ones in reference to?

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 10:44am on 18/01/2009
That's Children of Castor which was an imaginary, uber-cheap (in true Brit-style), 80's SciFi show from a TV Movie called Cruise of the Gods which is something I STRONGLY advise everyone who's ever been involved in fandom to see. It's a comedy set on a fan-cruise and, honest to God, it's the best picture of fandom ever and it doesn't mock the fans. Get hold of a copy if you can, you won't regret it.
Cruise of the Gods on You Tube

You have an awful lot of icons that I am not understanding much but, please to be telling me the story behind Tony Leung - Lust Caution, for I would love to know.

BTW! Gods, that 'If the Cap Fitz' icon is gorgeous! Is it yours and is it purloinable because I love it to quantum bits!

posted by [identity profile] arjuna-lj.livejournal.com at 11:36am on 18/01/2009
Yes it is, and take it with my blessing - glad you like it :)

That's actually the Syd Barratt pic off the back of the Wouldn't You Miss Me compilation :) First thing I thought when I saw it was Y HALO THAR MR KREINER.

The Lust, Caution icon is cropped from one of the promo posters for the film of the same name (based on the Eileen Chang novella). I adore Tony anyway, but he was marvellous in this - a collaborator with the Japanese under occupation. Very grey character, morally, with exquisite moments of emotional tension; the pic references a pivotal scene between him (Mr Yee) and his seducer/victim Wong Chia Chi.

Many thanks!

So it IS Syd! I thought it looked like him. heh! I've always seen Pete Doherty as Fitz in my head.

You have some splendid icons! Tony Harrison made me laugh, as did Moss. The one that has me intrigued though is "I choose as my weapons the jiff-lemon and the angry cat". Explanation please?

- and, is your AoTB icon gankable?

My icons are all pretty basic, I don't think there's any that would need explaining. But ask away.

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 12:01pm on 18/01/2009
Well thankee kindly!

LOLZ! Jiff lemon, huh? Yup, that's an obscure one! It's from a sketch my sister and I wrote for a BBC show that never got into production (that happens to a lot of my/our stuff *g*) that had an elderly couple calmly seeing off an intruder by means of the Jiff lemon (do you have that? It's lemon juice; comes in a yellow plastic, lemon-shape squeezy bottle) which the woman shot into the intruders eyes, then the man threw a cat whose face had previously been dipped into the toilet water (and hence in a sitting rage) at the burglar. I hope it was funnier than I'm making it sound. Our producer loved it. I should re-pitch it somewhere.

The cat is Mr Stubbs, the family cat (my stare of evil is our dog, Hamish).

Arthur is indeed, gankable, if you would wish to take it - though I'm thinking of doing some work on it, improrve the text. I hope it brings you joy.

I think I get most of yours but what's going on in Doesn't play well with others. LOL! I like it a lot. *g*

posted by [identity profile] miwahni.livejournal.com at 12:14pm on 18/01/2009
I'd love to see that sketch, it sounds quite Pythonesque! I can picture it happening. We have the squeezy lemon juice bottles shaped like lemons although it goes by another name; Jiff here is a cleaning product for kitchen/bathroom.

Doesn't play well with others - I'm not sure what was going through the creator's mind but it always made me think of the shy child who hovers on the edge of a group, wanting desperately to join in but never having the courage to risk their rejection. So she sits on the stair, in the shadows, watching the other children having fun, both yearning to join in and at the same time despising herself for not being game enough.

And I've noticed that one of my icons is not, in fact, my icon. The one labelled "Pros B&D Hairier Chest" should look like this (points upwards) but has been replaced on my icon page by someone throwing themselves on their sword.

Thanks for the icon, too. Spreading the AoTB love!

ETA: icon is still displaying as sword-suicide lady. Does it look right from your end?

I'm seeing 'my chest is hairier than yours' alright. How bizarre...

I heard about this happening to someone else on my flist; apparently her icon and the impostor had the same http location (find by clicking on your icon and choosing Properties) except that her icon was a .jpeg file and the impostor was a .gif file. The best cure is to delete your icon and re-upload it; off to do that now.
