Would an American say cack-handed? I suspect, probably not - in which case, what would be a similarly slangy way of saying something was clumsy, badly and/or stupidly done?
Many TIA!
Many TIA!
I smell of dust, old books and bluebells. Can someone give me a quick US-beta-pic?.

Too cool for subject
Ass-backwards works, if your character would say that. Some people also say Bass-ackwards.

In more polite company, we often say "bass-ackwards". *g*
One might also say "He's all thumbs".
You'd say "He did it all ass-backwards" because he's "all thumbs". =>}

Since I don't know him, I'll take your word for it. *g*

After doing something ass-backwards, would he then fall "ass over teakettle"? =>}

Sheesh! Well DUH! I thought it was someone from another fandom or something. Now if you'd just said, "Peace", I would've bought a clue. *g*
I can be so darned dense at times. *hangs head in shame*

I certainly remember his last name. Guess it was the first name that threw me. =>}
Cool. You're working on BLUE! Yay! *g*

I've also heard ham-handed.
Depending on the sentence you're using it in, FUBAR might work. IE, "That guy's really FUBARed." (Fucked up beyond all repair.)

SNAFU - situation normal, all fucked up
FUBAR (as starwatcher said)
TARFU
these three tend to be used in sitrep-type conversations: 'hey, Sarge, how's it going?' *shrugs* 'SNAFU. you?'
there's also:
clusterfuck (describing a situation that was very badly planned and executed)
mongolian clusterfuck - an extreme version of the above.
these two would be used to describe a specific event: 'the battle of the bulge was one hell of a clusterfuck!'
i've heard bass-ackwards and ass-backwards more from civilians and polite company, but they mean essentially the same thing.
this is probably more than you want to know, but good luck!

I've already changed the offending Briticism to ass-backwards - but thanks for the info anyway, I'm sure it'll come in handy one day.
