Welcome to my perfumed garden

I did some pictures around the village yesterday; it wasn't a very good day for it, tbh... hazy, hot, humid; a storm in the air that broke last night - today's dawned dark and wet but hey ho.... It/they (when I can get it to get it to load more than one piccie at a time :G:) should give you some idea of the gorgeous spring we're having.

A picture of the gorge - it was a dull day, so not as purty as it could be... a waterfall flows over here, but you can't get a good shot of it unless you climb down and stand in the river, which I wasn't really in the mood to do. Anyway, last time I did that, the rocks were really slippery and I ended up getting an impromptu bath :G:

Now this is really exciting! For decades, the prevailing opinion was that major civilizations had never lived in Amazonia because living conditions made it too difficult. Current archaeologists working in the area now almost all discount this, theorizing that maybe as many as 80 million people inhabited the area in pre-Colombian times, living in thriving cities, now all gone after European introduced disease killed 95% or more of the population.
Aside from tribal tales and mythology, some areas with unusually rich soils, a lot of pottery and many old roads (found on satellite images), there's been very little material evidence - hence the excitement over this discovery!

But now I must get myself a beer and watch Doctor Who...
