Strawberries!

So glad I decided to let the garden have its own way viz wild strawberries for ground cover. They really would cover everything if I let them, if I didn't keep them constantly in check. Not these babies though, we ate them for dinner and very good they were, too :o)

We have a few wild strawberries in our lawn, under where the mower cuts. Sweet! =>}

When we were kids at the cottage, we used to be able to pick enough for my Mum to make wild strawberry jam. There is nothing tastier! *g*

Oh! You should be able to make a batch of jam. There's truly nothing like it!

Some see them as weeds in their lawn. I love them. Both when they have their pretty white flowers and when the lovely red fruit ripens.

I have to admit, our lawn is far from being 100% grass. Many home owners would be horrified, but as long as it's green and organic, we don't care. *g*

Jams and me have never been a success together, tbh. I just munch the fruit down while it's fresh.

Lawns are nothing more than green deserts. I don't have one, I'd rather grow stuff in the space. Dad's take all week to mow; a complete waste of time and space imo.

We have far too much space to leave it all as garden, but it takes J. about 3 hours maximum to mow all of our lawn and he always does it in stages, so never too much at once. Our total property is 80' x 200' and it already looks wild. =>}

My Mum always made jam in the summer from whatever fruit was going at the time - strawberries, raspberries, peaches, plums, apples (mostly jelly), she even made her own mint jelly. So I learned very young how to make jam and have (almost) never had a problem with it.

There's nothing like sitting all cozy at the dining room table on a frosty -30ºC day, eating the fruits that grew in the hot summer. =>}

They look luverly- we have strawberry plants but I ain't seen any strawberries yet. Mind you, I ain't checked for a while. :0

Our regular strawberries are a long way from ready yet, a few small, green fruits but mostly they're still flowering, it's only the wild ones that are fruiting like crazy. We're still relying on Aldi for all our strawberry needs right now. :o)

I don't grow many berries in the garden because it's a tiny garden and the woods and moors round here are groaning with the wild sort; blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cloudberries, dewberries - I only grow a few strawberries, black, white and red currants and I just got a gooseberry bush that I need to get in the ground, otherwise, it's all free, why take up the precious space? :o) The wild strawberries grow like crazy anyway, they keep down the weeds and look pretty and require no work at all, which is the best part. :o)

They are wild raspberries that grow in my back yard.....the only thing I have growing right now are tomatoes. I have been thinking about starting a larger garden but then I get lazy.

Mmmm, those look delicious. Our ones this year are teeny tiny :( Much smaller than yours but still quite yummy.

Ours are usually tiny and quite pippy but this year they're HUGE, about 1/3 the size of a normal strawberry, juicy and incredibly sweet. The main trouble with them is, they're so at home they take everything over unless I go at them periodically with the shears of doom. :o)
