Oh dear.

Have I really just wasted almost an hour reading the batshit comment on this article (warning! Contains Sarah Palin)? Almost worth it to read this from an old, wise soul who dubs him/herself Anduin:

Don't you love the sock puppet invasion that took place as soon as this was published?

Ah me oh my. But I must leave off such passive pleasures and press on with my day for there is a synopsis to write, submissions to post, sloes to be gathered and a blood test to be gone through - oh, the excitement, it burns.

Or maybe not. How about the excitement 'toasts lightly'? Has been waved briefly across a candle flame? Was brought within sniffing distance of a neighbour's brazier?

Sadly, probably not even the last. ::twists toe, looks slightly sad::

Despite my college infatuation with sloe gin fizzes, I only recently realized that sloe is plant life (I just thought it was a cutesy name....) So what does a sloe look like?

Read that article earlier too and the comments whioch had my eyes rolling suitably in my sockets.

Then I turned to a friends blog and he'd got a clip of a newspiece about a line of people waiting for her autograph ...

How do people like that manage to attract such a following? We had one - Pauline Hanson - who in her maiden speech to Parliament announced that Australia would eventually become "overrun by Asians" and for the sake of Aussie jobs she wanted immigration halted. Scary scary stuff. Full transcript here; it does make fascinating reading, especially if one bears in mind that
a) she was originally a member of the Liberal party (John Howard's govt) but was thrown out for her racist views,
b) she only lasted one term in parliament,
c) she ended up in jail for electoral fraud, and
d) she staged an abortive comeback in the last federal election that saw her polling last in her chosen electorate.
So, it's not just the US that spawns these crackpots and gives them a following.
