Our climate is normally very mild, extreme temperatures are very rare, we've had practically no snow like this for almost 30 years, it makes no sense to maintain snow ploughs and vast mountains of salt when they're only needed once every 30 years. If the climate looks to be changing (and this is the third year in a row it's snowed properly) then I guess the govt.will have to change their policy and allocate resources. ::shrug::

When I was a kid, this kind of weather was far more common, in Yorkshire anyway, the drifts used to bury our house to the bedroom windows - and we did deal with it, the country didn't grind to a halt as it has, but not anymore. Whole generations have grown up not seeing this kind of thing.
