Yeah, I've been reading some of the news stories (they're mostly the same because it's just been reported) and they call said he's been ill with cancer for quite a while. It was kind of out of the blue though.
I was really shocked - I didn't know he was ill, and he's one of those people you kind of expect (and look forward to) being disgraceful into extreme old age.
I'm very, very shocked and saddened by this. Like you say, I could imagine a terribly thin, horribly ugly, disgraceful old man suddenly doing something that got him on all the talk shows again and behaving very badly on them all.
