Raises glass (actually mug of tea since it's now 8.00 in the am) back to you.

I had a splendid evening drinking port, finishing off the stilton and olives and watching Jools Holland and the Secret Policeman's Ball, thanlks - until the events of midnight on, detailed above in all their misery, anyway.

Oh blimey - that's a lousy way to start the new year... how the hell did anyone manage to let off fireworks in all that weather last night? ::growl grumble mutter:: Like you - I love the pretty, but must they make so much noise?
