I think I have it.

I flew to the US today; been up since 4am and it's now... ::click, click, rattle, whirr:: (that's the sound of my brain attempting thought) half past 1am UK time, 8.30pm local time. I'm thoroughly shattered, the room service grilled cheese sandwich and fries I just ate are sitting on my stomach like a lead brick; In Her Shoes is on TV, but I've missed all of Richard's bits )o: I have tea, but no milk... Gods, I'm tired!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to meet up with the estimable [personal profile] snycock- am hugely looking forward to that! In the meantime... it's taken me sooooo long to write these few sad sentences; I am tired into incoherence and am going to bed.

You have tea??? At a hotel in NC??? Wow!

I forgot to ask - Why the heck are you there? LOL I was just in the vicinity in December while visiting family at Christmas.

There IS tea here; orange pekoe no less, but only a coffee maker to make it in - though I brought my own earl grey and travel kettle. I have milk now, anyway, after breakfast. I'm just letting brekkie digest before I pop into town for a look-see.

I'm feeling much better after about 12 hours of sleep. The beds here are Amazing! - the hotel lists them as a feature in their literature and I'm not surprised. I want to take it home with me!

Of course, you *are* in the Triangle area, so they're a little more modern. What hotel are you at?

The campus is beautiful. Too bad you're not there in spring.

I had a browse around the campus today; very nice. Reminds me of my old U. in Manchester.

I'm at the Sheraton. It's EXACTLY like a Cuban hotel, and most of the staff are Latino, too. It's freaking me out; my brain is all confused; it keeps telling me I'm in Havana and wants to make me speak Spanish all the time. Like my psyche doesn't already have enough to contend with. Sheesh )o:

The Sheraton used to be the Omni Europa. I knew the son of the guy that built that sucker.

Sorry, forgot to say, I'm here for work. A sort of travel writers convention thing. I was able to get cheap flights so I thought, why not? I don;t think anyone else has arrived yet, though. The hotel is vast and cavernous but there's practically no one here. It's everso slightly scary! O:!

Oh man, I was WASTED yesterday. My brain was in a strange place, slightly to the left of my cranium, I think.

I'm seeing Jen for dinner tonight; I shall pass on your good wishes along with the Flake and disks I've brought with me (o:

So you're on our side of the pond, eh? Hope whatever brought you here is a success. ::waves in a southerly direction::

I'm feeling so much better after many hours of sleep in the amazing bed here. And - my god, but you were right! The room is huge, the bed is vast, the shower is fanastic but the bath tub is TINY! *I* can hardly fit in it, let alone Mark O:!

I'm here for work, but I have a couple of days before it all kicks in. I'm off to nose around Chapel Hill in a tic.

It's a very American thing. I am deeply in love with British bathtubs.

I hardly ever have a bath; a really good shower is more important to me - something I don't have at home (my water pressure is pathetic )o:) - so the wonderful shower and - most of all - the unbelievable BED more than make up for the teensy-tiny bathtub (how does any normal sized man ever get into one of those?)

::has discovered the Sheraton sells these beds and will ship to the UK. Is thinking very, very seriously about spending a lot of money on a bed::

I hope you have a fantastic time there!
I love the description of the room, sounds fantastic. And the tea in the coffee machine - been there, done that! Fun, isn't it?!
:o)

It most certainly is. I'm having a little rest now; been tramping around by the side of a terrifyingly busy road with no footpath, in search of vittals as this hotel is as good at the vegetarian option as The Belfry. Found a very nice supermarket called Food Lion, like a small Tesco but with loads of Latin foods - stuff like boniato and malanga - that I've not seen since Cuba, which was exciting in a strange, unexciting way.

Anyway, bathies now as I'm seeing Snycock aka Psychgirl tonight at a veggie restaurant for some fangirl squee.
