I'm musing...

On changing my name.

I became Gillyp because my fic-writer name, Panik, was already taken, but now I'm musing on whether I could be Panik + a number or sommat? I'm always having to direct people here and 'explain' to those who only know me through my fic; it would be easier, I think, if I just used my ficly name..

I dunno.

What do you think my lovelies? Is it worth the bother?

Kindda depends, doesn't it? If you are Panik-something here, your LJ *will* be easily associated with your fic. Some folks don't like people associating their LJ with its assorted interestes with the slash. If you don't mind, or can do a friends-locked thing, go for it.

I am thinking about it. I have no problem with people associating me with the fic, tbh - most people already know who I am fic-wise and RL people are more likely to 'know' me as Gilly than Panik.

Um, do you have a direct link on your website to your LJ? (With or without an explanation that you're Gillyp here?) That would be a heck of a lot less trouble, I would imagine -- and gee, it's good for people's brains to have to do a little unexpected thinking and remembering from time to time. (And since plain "Panik" is already in use on LJ, nobody's going to be able to find you just by "Panik" -- they'd need to know your exact LJ name, anyway. Which makes me think Gillyp shouldn't be that much more of a stretch than having to handle Panik3005 or whatever. And you clearly have your website, with its distinctive name, here in your journal -- if they get this far via a link or something, they should be fine, right?)

OTOH, maybe it'd be for the best. I like fences, to sit on.

Okay, tiny additional thought. Which only makes sense if you're worried about people making this far to your LJ and then being confused about whether they are where they want to be, visiting Panik -- You could just maybe point out somewhere in your title or on your links -- or on a little banner or entry at the top of your journal -- that you are, in fact, Panik. Reassurance, or suchlike, for the possibly confused.

Maybe Panik is one of the names that got purged recently? So you could have it without a number?

But that doesn't really answer your dilemma, does it?

On the one hand, it gives you freedom so that your LJ doesn't have to be ALL about the fic and the fandom...but, it is nice having one name. I get a little tired, sometimes, of explaining that I'm "PsychGirl" on 852 but "snycock" on LJ....

Sorry, I'm probably not much help either...*g*
