OK, this explains a lot to me - maybe we need to consider re-naming the contest next year. Instead of the Eurovision Song Contest we could call it the Euroblinkered Backscratching Contest!

Or split the thing in two so the music can be judged on its merits again, like it used to be, and not on the ethnicity of the performer/composer.
