The man from Dynorod...

...He say, all our Victorian drains have been smashed to smithereens by tree roots and our garden must be dug up to lay new ones at a cost of many hundreds of our English Pounds.

Shit.
Literally!!! Bwahahahahaha!

Oh, it's INSURED! It's not the end of the world but - my garden!!! Though he assures us we won't catch Cholera in the meantime, which is a comfort. :G:

OMG - I have so been there, done that... and the smell ::shudders, sends sympathy::

Um - could you sort of move house... quickly? *hg* Well, I guess thank god for the insurance... and summer's coming, so half-naked sweaty workmen... See, I'm looking for the positive side!

Thank God it's insured! My aunt had the same problem, although her drains were under concrete, so no tree roots were responsible...don't ask me what happened to the drains though. Anyway, she too was insured, much to her relief.

Sorry about your garden though. :o(

I forget about this kind of thing.I live in an area where we have one of the older houses in an older neighborhood.Care to guess how old our house is?

This is the very reason I shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard before coffee.
I deleted part of my post and didn't even notice.
Anyway the oldest frame house in our city was only built in 1915.
So we don't have any Victorian drains I don't think...so *um what are they?

What are Victorian drains??

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm? Guessing... 1940's??? :G:

Actually, the origin of our problem is that the house way pre-dates the drains - dunno when they were put in (I'm guessing 1880's or so?) but the house was built in 1836. The house sits on the bedrock, so when all the public health acts came into play and drains had to be put in - and there's just no room for them between the surface and solid rock. They sit *right* (two inches!!!) under the york paving out back and that's the root of practically all our drainage troubles. We actually had a spring rise in the kitchen once :G:

Lord! Good luck and good thing you're insured that sounds expensive.
Our house, one of the oldest in the neighborhood was built in 1964 right after the earthquake.I forgot to add that too.Sheesh I need a nap already.
I think I'll go play in the dirt.

Man! The oldest house in your neighbourhood is younger than me??? O: Way to make a person feel very, very old!
The oldest house in our neighbourhood was built in 1516 But we're a long way from the nearest earthquake zone. :G:

Younger than me too.The oldest house in our area is somewhat older, Probably 1940's.
The russians didn't get here till 1741,so no permanent houses.Yep they don't call us The Last Frontier for nothing
The Earthquake(9.2) is one of the reasons for younger houses, almost a whole neighborhood fell into the Inlet.
The oldest house is still standing through it all and the oldest school too.
