Ah, poor woman. Tonight she was wandering the corridors in floods of tears, when I asked if she was OK, she told me she'd just heard her mother had died, she didn't know what she was going to do because her brother didn't care and she had 'all these little children to care for'.
She told me she was leaving - I had to call for a nurse in case she actually tried to (she's diabetic and on warfarin). The nurse plied her with ovantine and got her back to bed.
She caught up to me later, as I was waiting in the corridor for mum to come out of the bathroom, told me again about her mother, then lifted her nightie and pulled down her knickers, revealing what Moss would call her 'lady parts', took out a well-used incontinence pad and thrust it under my nose. "Look at that," she commented, casually. "That was clean on this morning."

It's awful really; I think, if I'm still aware enough to know this sort of thing is happening to me, it's a scalpel in the jugular for sure. I'd hate to end up like poor Eileen. )o:

I always vote for the laugh.

"here they would declare her a 'wanderer' and drug her to the gills so she couldn't put one foot in front of another and would stay in her bed."
The NHS is probably too poor to afford the drugs. ::giggle::
She ought to be in a single room, really (she's in a 4 bed) but they're all full at the moment. Bless her, she's harmless enough, just - odd. (o:
I don't think the hospital would drug a patient tbh, unless they were dangerous to others or themselves or something. Don't they like you walking about over there? They tend to encourage it here; it's supposed to be good for you to walk and commune with other patients - that's why they put patient's lounges on every ward.
And yeah, lol. It's a learning experience... it'll all go in a fic for sure. (o:

Thinking of you and your mum.

Ah, the poor old thing. It's a shame. I hope to all the Gods I never end up like that.
Thanks so much for the good wishes, hon. mum was quite bright and feisty yesterday. She wanted to go for a walk in the gardens - a definite improvement.

I'm sending good get-out-of-jail-quick thoughts to your mum, and virtual G&Ts to you.

I HATE hospital visiting, especially the sort that goes on and on. It grinds you down and leaves you knackered and likely to cry. Hideous.
Fingers and toes crossed that you and your family escape from it soon.

She's quite sweet really, just... special. ::giggle::
Thanks for the good wishes. Mum's seeing the consultant again this morning - whether she comes home or not depends on her INR; it's getting better but *so* slowly.
I hope things are good with you.

Lol, yeah, I could tell. I hope for her, though, that she can soon go back to her usual home. Stands to hope that she won't be feeling quite as out of sorts there. Different surroundings, especially the likes of a hospital, probably aren't good for her.

Oh yeah, I'm good. Busy, busy, busy, but we're making progress and I'm lucky in that there's a fixed light at the end of the tunnel for me. Two more weeks and then we're at the new place... My biggest worry now is that the phone company won't f*k things up switching the dsl line... So you see how serious my worries are ;-)
Thanks!
