Bill Deedes has died. He was 94.
We had dinner together at the Bodeguita del Medio when he was in Havana doing a story on Fidel, and he was great - funny, witty, totally on the ball; a real character. I took to him immediately when he paid the restaurant's house band not to play on our floor.
I hope Peter Cook is amongst those waiting to greet him.
