The story of My Christmas, in which I wear a musical Santa hat throughout (you must picture me thus)...

Had a nice day; quiet, everso, but nice - possibly aided by the booze that ran in my veins pretty much all day, from the Tia Maria in my breakfast coffee to the hot rum toddy at bedtime but... a good day, all told. I woke early after getting a good night's sleep (for once), possibly aided by a relaxing Christmas Eve in front of the telly, drinking port, eating mince pies and watching the excellent Christmas at the Riviera (by the same writers who did 'the worst week of my life, which showed, kinda, but was none the worse for it) , then the Father Ted eppy in which Ted has to Kick Bishop Brennan up the arse. Excellent. *g* It's been a hectic, hard-working lead-up to Crimbo so it was nice to relax and get a good night's sleep without the usual, attendant panic attacks *G*.

So, Christmas Morning... and Dad was - not great really; not especially tearful or sad, but confused; kept asking about his presents, the ones he's only just opened - 'where did this come from?' and 'is it my birthday?' with the occasional 'is it still Christmas?' at which point, we would wryly point out the 9 foot tall, 8foot wide, merrily decorated and lit with three-hundred coloured lights pine tree standing in the corner of the room - at which point he'd grin and chuckle till his shoulders shook, which was actually all rather sweet and silly and nice.

Anyway, we all unwrapped our presents, less than usual, we'd agreed sitting around the tree opening pressies could be upsetting, though it wasn't in the least. I'd moved on to Amaretti - it was Mum's favourite and Hilary poured the last of the bottle so that mum would be with us 'in spirit' - heh heh heh. (o: One of Dad's presents from Hilalry was the complete collection of Laurel and Hardy on DVD so I settled everyone down with 'A Chump at Oxford' while I sorted dinner.

It'd been decided; no trad Christmas dinner as no one wanted to sit around the table so I prepped an endless number of garlic and  mayonnaise-based salads, sliced and buttered an insane number or rolls, baguettes and breads, made hummus, sliced nut roast, set out three cheese boards (we have an awful lot of cheese The Stinking Bishop had to have a dish of its own and be kept covered as the smell was truly appalling - a little like a freshly opened septic tank).
A massive buffet so everyone could pick away to their heart's content all evening long, though everyone was so full of the nuts, figs and Toblerone we'd eaten for breakfast - *G* -  no one was hungry till well after Doctor Who.

Anyway, while I did all this, all alone in the kitchen (and Mark fitted the ram he'd bought me as part of my Crimo pressie into my lappy; oh, happy lappy, how fast you do run now! *G*), I hit the Merlot and listened to Radio four where there was an excellent show of the station's funniest moments, chosen by Lenny Henry, followed by Queenie's speech followed by an excellent new version of  '84 Charing Cross Road' with Gillian Anderson and Dennis Lawson. Oh, how brilliant was this? I stayed for the whole 2 hours - everyone else was either reading their Christmas books - we all got loads - or in Hilary's case, watching Finding Nemo and Shrek 2 - and happy enough, so I spent a wonderful 2 hours alone, drinking wine and eating cheese and olives, sitting at the kitchen table, listening to the play.

Then we watched some Droopy cartoons (on DVD, a present to me from Hilary) and then it was time for
Doctor Who; Voyage of the damned...

Which was, I have to say, something of a disappointment - all dashing about through fire and frisbeed angel haloes and all terribly exciting I suppose, and there were some nice moments but very little of substance there at all, and I was just all 'meh' - not bad, exactly, but really not all that good, either. The ending was nice, with Clive Swift -  who was the best thing in the show, imo; I'd really like to see him again - but in general, a bit of a let down.

...Greatly tempered by the wine I'd drunk and was still drinking, soon to be followed by a refreshing G&T, then a glass of port with a restorative mince pie, and a hot toddy at bedtime. (o:

Anyone else watch the 2 hour documentary 'Hidden Story of Jesus' on C4? A little less 'new', a bit less fascinating than I'd hoped, but an interesting enough background for Dad to snooze to and a damn sight better than 'Love Actually' and 'To the Manor Born'; watching either on top of that much food and drink might well have killed me.

So, welcome to
Boxing Day We're supposed to drive down to Sheffield for the annual family party at my cousin's house, but it kinda depends how Dad is. I'm hoping to go and I think it would do him good to get out and about a little, but I'm doubtful we'll be able to persuade him to leave the house.

I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday and today goes as you'd all wish. Sending out the love vibes to you all...
Oooh, look; they're all pink and sparkly (o:

I really enjoyed reading about your family Christmas.

We have never had such a quiet, small Christmas, but it was very nice just the same.

Funny thing. During Christmas Eve dinner (which we'd always spent with Mum) I had a little tearful breakdown and was much comforted by a teary J. And this morning of course, I woke up reliving the whole hospital thing of last Christmas. But on Christmas Day, although I was very aware of all the changes and missing Mum, I was okay.

I hope your Boxing Day festivities have been a success. We've certainly never ever had such a quiet or mundane one.

But soon we're going to watch Pirates of the Caribbean #2 so that we can watch the third one, which I received for Christmas yesterday. *g*

Well I'm glad you enjoyed my lunatic ramblings. (o:

We had a quiet tie, too - we didn't go out for Boxing Day, Dad changed his mind at the last minute (kinda knew he would) but it was all OK, in its way. It'll never be the same again - not just because of Mum, but dad too; his deteriorating condition means he's far from being 'Dad' in the same way he was but we still have fun and I hope we made things as good for him as we could.

We make the best of things...

Hope you enjoyed your films; we've been watching Tom and Jerry (complete collection on DVD - another present) all day (and I remember them all! O:! *G*)

Love to you all, sugar. XXX

Tom and Jerry! When I was really small (like in the '50's!) they were my favourites. I still have my stuffed Jerry. He's a little beaten up, though. *g*

We enjoyed the films immensely and now are watching a couple of others we taped from the TV.

I'm glad you can still enjoy your Dad's company!

Much love back to you! xoxoxoxoxox!

:-) I thought that Doctor Who was a bit of a let down as well, though I only got the chance to watch it today. I'm glad your relaxing Christmas went well, sweetheart, and thank you for the Christmas card. *hugs*

LOL; glad someone agrees with me about DW, I thought I was the only one expressing disappointment and discontent. *G*

Re the card - you're more than welcome (btw, I had no idea that you too had discovered the very special luurve that is Top Gear ... if you need a copy of the US, Polar and/or African specials, I can do you a copy hon.)

Oh, I LOVE Top Gear! :-) My entire family has been utterly hooked to it for years. *g* I have the US special, which still makes me cackle just *thinking* about it *g* But I must admit I never got the chance to record the Polar and African ones. Could I possibly impose for a copy...? That would be fantastic!

I can offer you something in return, if there's anything your short of? I have hundreds of DVDs and mpegs of all kinds of weird and wonderful things! Thank you sweetheart *hugs*

You're more than welcome to have a copy - they're both a sittin' here on m' HD, so as soon as I can get around to it, I'll burn you a copy. Or would you prefer a download? Obv DVD is better quality and I can't upload at the moment because the broadband has been *excruciating* over Christmas - though I'm hopig that will pick up again soon (bloomin well hope so) - but either way you'll have to wait a day or two so just let me know which you prefer.

I don't need anything in return hon, honestly... I can't think what I'd be after anyway (tho for a moment there, my slashy brain read your words as 'hundreds of DVDs and MPREGS. heh heh heh!)

LOL! A slasher to the end, huh? That's what I like to hear ;) There's absolutely no rush my dear, so whatever is easier for you is just fine.

I suspect burning a DVD would be quicker than trying to upload even on a good broadband connection, but it's totally up to you, and thank you again! :)

I'm really glad Christmas Day wasn't as bad as you'd feared it would be. I hope Boxing Day went well too. ::hugs::

I know the Stinking Bishop cheese smelt bad, but what did it taste like?? Did you manage to eat any?

We are having a very nioce time, all things considered, hon; I hope you are too.

Thanks for the good wishes.

The cheese... kinda tasted like it smelled! It was OK, an interesting experiment but I wouldn't buy it again. *G* (just as well at £1.80 per 100g!)
