It's a tad breezy out there today and cold! There's a distinct smell of snow in the air which is something of a shock after the ridiculously warm-wet weather of the last few weeks. I should go out and pick the last of the blackberries, bilberries and wild plums before we get a frost (but I'm not going out in this in my enfeebled condition). And I've tamped it down as hard as I can but the howling winds in the chimney have whipped the stove into a mental frenzy. If you need any lead smelting, I'm your woman.
Anyway, we're snug and warm, curled up on our furry throws, Time Team on t'telly, mugs of hot Ribena in our hoary hands, nursing our mutual infection. The neighbour's cat has finally overcome his shock at finding the house full of fangirls last week and deigned to come in out of the cold; he's curled up by the aga with a tummy full of Whiskers, looking pleased with himself.
I don't know about the rest of the afflicted but the flu's still not really let go of us. You think you're getting better but it has a tendency to keep coming back. Mark was running around yesterday but then felt so ill again he took himself off to bed at nine. I'm feeling a lot better so long as I'm sitting around, but generally very weak and tired and incapable of doing very much at all. But I had my first mug of coffee in almost 2 weeks this morning. I must be on the mend. :o)
Yea, verily, tis a bit of a bastard.
I finally made a start on sorting out the structure my novel yesterday - got 7,000+ words of plotting done, which is a massive relief. There's still a lot of work to do on that but I have a much stronger sense of who's doing what and why and when than I did. Today, if I'm spared, I'm going to tackle the plot for Blue, try and get that at least partially drafted so I can start writing again with a bit more direction.
Gods, I hate this new 'system for the cut'!!!!.
Such is my day. How are the rest of you doing, my darlings? For tis the weekend, let us give thanks and be happy. :o)
ETA: LJ seems to have been a bit previous with turning the clocks back. It's tomorrow, LJ - you had me all confused there, for a minute.

Too cool for subject
I touched up the paint(a group of us painted it last Friday) in the lobby at work, since no clients were scheduled to come in and listened to my Mp3 player, but while the four hours doing that were pleasantly spent listening to podfic(my own, for proof reading before I do the final copy -- found a mistake, too, that I need to fix) I really should have spent the time doing four hours of paperwork that is now offically late. I'm hoping it will slide by without offical recognition because I decided I wasn't doing it at home this weekend.
I be bad.
This weekend -- house cleaning, hopefully recording another podfic if my husband will go hang out with his cronies, and work more on the home stretch of my Mag7/TS story. (54,000 words as of now), walking and picking up more Black Walnuts for the final run to the Co-op next Wednesday when I go to a doctor's appt near where the Co-op is located. For sheer indulgence I want to read
I'm sorry to hear that your and the rest of the GMOH lot are hanging onto your Lurgy. Hope it goes away for good very soon.

You sound busy. I likes the sound of the black walnuts - in what way are they black? The rind around the outside or the nuts themselves? Are they tasty and are you keeping some for yourself? - sorry if I sound over-interested but food plants are my thang. We had an English Walnut in the garden of the house where I grew up. They rarely ripened enough to crack for nuts so mum used to pickle them (and very tasty they were). ::sigh:: I've gone all nostalgic and melancholy now.
I think your time change is next week, btw.

The Black Walnuts have a big green hull around them and the actual nut shell does look kind of dark, but I don't know if that's where they get the name or because the taste is a darker one, The nuts are used in cookies and cakes alot. They aren't really the kinds of nuts you sit around with a nutcracker to open because they are bloody difficult to crack open. Even with a hammer its about impossible, and if you do get them open they are pretty smashed and the shell fragments tend to get mixed in the the nut meat, making an interesting experience if you crunch on one. Think broken tooth. So, I don't save them.
I did a post with a little bit of lj-cut text and it seemed okay. ::knocks on wood::

Hm... well, on the plus side...
I work with small children so I have whatever cold thing is going around, so I can empathize to a certain extent. (stuffed ears, runny nose low fever, general feeling of yuck)
Re: I haven't had a flu shot
Garett's Flu (as I've decided to call it) aka the Great Venice Plague seems to be a peculiarly virulent and unpleasant germ. It's laid multitudes low for many a day and is probably on its way to being a pandemic by now since it's been carried back to most regions of the continental US, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. First Burgi gives me herpes and now this. ::shakes fist at TS DVDs::
Sorry you're still not 100%
I just needed to comment on your subject line--it's been ages since I saw that skit, and now I need to go find a copy as I'm giggling just reading the first line there. Thanks for that!
Take care and feel better soon!
Re:ooh! Southern Comfort!
Actually, I haven't been able to stand the taste of alcohol since I fell ill. I attempted a mouthful of red wine last night and had to spit it out. I hope this dire situation rectifies itself asap. Unnatural, it is.
Thanks for the good wishes. I shall use them wisely. :o)

Re:ooh! Southern Comfort!
I must work "have you brought the picnic basket?" into conversation some time today :)
Good luck with the return to red wine and song! :)

Oh, god, thank you for the reminder! I've had the election on constant replay & I'm sure I wouldn't have figured it out until tomorrow morning when I turn the computer back on...

Hope you all start feeling better, btw...

Oh, bloody hope so. It's getting indescribably tedious.

Here in Canada, and therefore I presume in the US, the clocks don't turn back until Nov. 2nd, according to my (US made) calendar! =>}
(hope you don't mind me butting in here!)

Well, since it's actually around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, I always just think of it as Saturday night and turn the clocks back before going to bed. I love having an extra hour of sleep. *g*

We were field walking (very unsuccessfully) and doing geophys and freezing (very successfully).
The extra hour is going to be very welcome tomorrow, though it means winter is here.
Have a happy weekend despite the nast horrid bug and enjoy your coffee!
Dark mornings, short days
We're finally getting over the bug though we're both very washed out and tired and I still can;t drink wine which is - puzzling.

My cold is on its 7th day, which I hope to God means it's just about gone. And you've reminded me, must go get a flu shot ;)
Stay warm!
it's already so cold there.
Ack, flu shots are worse, to me, than the flu. ::backs away, waving hands::

Beyond the Fringe! Oh what wonderful memories that brings back of our family sitting around the old record player on a rainy day, listening to that and laughing so much! *g*
We don't turn our clocks back until November 2nd! Strange. =>}
I hope you're feeling 100% VERY soon!
::hugs::
Beyond the Fringe...
I am feeling a little better now, thanks, but recovery's muy slow. We're both still very tired and washed out and prone to relapse. It's been a most extraordinarily virulent and nasty bug. I hope it doesn;t reach you now thsat so many fangirls have no doubt taken it to your shores.
Re: Beyond the Fringe...
Please take care of yourself so there are no more relapses! Not many fangirls anywhere near me, sad to say! =<{
Just in case you didn't know, Beyond The Fringe was a stage revue written and performed by Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett, and Jonathan Miller. They brought it to North America in 1962 when I was 12. My parents went to see it in Toronto and just loved it.
They bought the (vinyl) record of it and we used to listen to it a LOT! "The End of the World" was one of our favourites, as was the hysterical cigarette commercial, "Bollard", "Take A Pew" and one about a man out in his garden during the war.

Re: Beyond the Fringe...
We need a futile gesture at this stage of the war... *g*
Re: Beyond the Fringe...
I thought that might be the case, but you probably weren't even born when I was 12. *g*
One of our favourites was the sermon about Jacob and Esau. The number of times we quoted, "But OI was an hairy man!". Heh heh.
It was especially funny after my brother became an Anglican priest! =>}

You'll have to refer to
I enjoyed the Mighty Wind link! I've never seen that before. I, um, don't quite know who all it is (I mean, the label says it's John Cleese, but does that mean it's a Monty Python skit, or some other group? 'Scuse the Yank ignorance here.)

I shall fly at once to see what the eminent gastropod is saying and your response - but if it's hot there, I shan't envy you, no siree. I had more than enough of that in my 12 years in the tropics. Never again, thanks. I'm a cold-blooded creature from the lands of the ice and snow (From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. heh).
