SHOOTING STARS is coming back

I adore Vic and Bob beyond the bounds of reason and some runs of SS were inspired brilliance.But...

Vic and Bob were pretty pissed off by the BBCs insistence on them sausageing-out series after series of SS to the detriment of projects like Smell and Bang Bang. Jim was once spotted in the pub, somewhat tired and emotional and sounding off in no uncertain terms in some very spicy language about the %&@* BBC and their refusal to honour their promise to let them make more cutting edge comedies - the agreement apparently being that R&M would continue to churn out the more accessible Shooting Stars so long as the BBC would budget them do more exciting projects. The inspired Catterick was the sole, lonely result which got tucked away on BBC3 at a late hour and didn't get a promised BBC2 slot till it was long since dead and done.

I'm deliriously happy to see R&M back on our screens, but I'd rather see them doing the things they do best; edgy, original comedy. I wonder what sort of a deal the beeb cut them this time to get Shooting Stars back?*

Why yes, I have been through the BBC production process, how did you guess? You've seen the second series of Extras? That's not sitcom, my friend, that's documentary. (bitter? Me??! ::hear my oh so hollow laugh::)

*According to Bob; "We're also working on a sitcom. It’s about super heroes who get skills through a telegraph pole that malfunctions and they go around helping people in their local community."
I shall keep all digits crossed.

I love Vic and Bob, as does David, so this is good, but I agree, I'd like to see them unleashed so to speak.

I like that. I need to see them in something new! After years of silence, Vic's had a so-so radio series l (don't know if you caught it?) called 'House Arrest' with Bob and Noel Fielding, Bob's been guesting on Buzzcocks and they've been doing occasional un-billed stand up in South London - guerilla stand up *g* - it seems they've been working towards a comeback of sorts and I was hoping it'd be something shiny and new - I'm happy to see them in anything tbh and I'll settle for SS while hoping that they'll get the chance to do show us something brilliant later on. Even if it is on BBC3 at midnight. :o)

I don't really trust the BBC to do right by them. The beeb just wants then to be the 'new Morecambe and Wise' and Vic n Bob are capable of so much more. ::sigh::

They are; definitely inspired by them, but not carbon copies by any stretch of the imagination.

No, never caught the radio show.
