I'm thinking about Moonridge. The auction's up and I haven't  offered anything yet; I do mean to, I haven't because of my complete and utter shame at having failed to finish the two stories I offered last year, yet, and the one that's almost done has no winner - nope, Terry/Mariojoe has apparently...

a) been abducted by aliens
b) been hanged for piracy on the South China Seas
c) left the fandom

So now I have a soon-to-be-completed story of dark doings and massive angst and no one to give it to. Ideas, anyone, please?

I really do want to offer stories for this year's auction but, bearing in mind I still have a massive Rainbows sequel to complete for my other auction winner, and my less than sterling performance in completing my dues this year, I'm a wee bit nervous about offering too much, over-stretching myself and being unable to deliver.

One idea I had was to offer my next story as a WIP - putting it in a community and offering access in the auction. eg, a set sum of cash to Moonridge gets you on my community list so you can read the WIP (and offer segments as email for the non-LJers out there). I could do at least one, maybe two stories that way, which would be less pressure for me, but would people pay for that, do you think? And how much should I charge?

Cos otherwise, I'm truly at a loss. I thought about offering stories of 5,000 words but - I have to face the fact that that's never going to happen. 50,000 maybe; 5,000? Forget it! ::sigh::

Any other ideas would be welcomed with grovelling, snivelling, everso 'umble gratitude.

What about setting a reserve and anyone bidding over that amount gets access?

I think if she would still be interested in TS-fandom/the story, meanwhile she would have noticed that you're looking for her everywhere and would have contacted you. As a "buyer" of auction-stories I can tell you, if I would have to change my e-mail addy, I would make sure that the people who are writing my won stories would be among the first to know how to reach me. *g* Perhaps you can do another round of searching for her in a week or so and include the info about your intention to offer the "abandoned from the buyer"-story for this year's auction. If she can't react right now because she's ill, on vacation etc. etc, there's another chance for her.

But the fact that she changed her e-mail addy and did not inform you gives me the impression, she's not interested in the story anymore because otherwise she would have told you how to reach her in the future. Just my 2 cents.

Did she win any other stories too and would it be possible to contact the authors of the other stories to see if they had contact with her lately? Aly could perhaps help with the info about whether or not she won more stories from other authors. :-)

In any case I think you should offer the WIP-comm idea, it's a good one. Even if just *one* person pays for the access, it's another dollar for Moonridge. :-) Set a low price (not because I think it's not worth more) but simply because at a low rate a lot of people could be willing to pay for the access, it wouldn't cut much into their money for other auction items and general budged. Ten people spending $ 5 each are simply more likely than one person spending $ 50 for it and I'm strictly thinking in a "how to get the most out of it for Moonridge"-manner. :-)

Aside from that I think that a lot of people would want to spend at least a little but a lot of items go out of their reach fast, money-wise. So having a "low price" offer gives those people the possiblity to particiipate in the auction without stressing their budget over the limit they can afford. :-) I think a lot of people would prefer to pay a few dollars for something like the comm-access (and would actually *do* it) over simply donating a low amount of money (which a lot of people might not do because they're ashamed of the low donation).

If the lost buyer doesn#t turn up in, say, 2 weeks, you would have 2 items to offer - the story for a "real" auction and the set price comm-access - without having to stress you too much. :-)

Having tried your very best to locate Terry/Mariojoe maybe you could offer up a copy of the completed story to those willing to pay a set amount say $25.00-$30.00?

I am not sure of the etiquette involved in taking such a step, but it is not as though you have not tried to contact her without success.

If the thought of doing that makes you uncomfortable, I like your suggestion about offering access to a WIP for a fee. I think $10.00 - $15.00 is a reasonable amount although given that it is for a good cause you could possibly charge a little more.

Not sure if this really helps you but I hope it does.

I agree. This way, folks who could afford smaller amounts (occasionally the story bids get quite high) would have a chance to participate. I think there were a couple of stories done this way last year.

Gilly, there's a "Mariojoe57" popping up at the TS-SToryfinders list who's signing her mails with "Terry" . Perhaps that's your lost buyer?

Thanks. (o:

Totally no Moonridge experience here to be of helpful opinion with. But you do a great job with posting works as WIPs and I would really think there'd be people who would enjoy being allowed to come in on that end and see what's happening as you write it. (Do not have a clue about mechanics or $$ amounts. Just a question, from curiosity -- would that mean those who pay the $$ would be part of any commenting process as you post the WIP segments? If so, that might be a selling point -- a behind-the-scenes kind of thing, which people might find interesting?) Not being much help, I know -- sorry.
