For the first time in an age (I love their high-juice blackcurrant cordial (o:) and they're selling the most wonderful Greek anti-pasti; various peppers, roasted aubergines and vine leaves stuffed with goats cheese, olives and herbs. Yum... I'm just draining some for dinner. They look really good. Yay Aldi!

Got a rather nice looking Merlot for under three quid, too - and they're selling Reese’s peanut butter cups! Why did no one tell me about this?!  I've never seen American candy on sale over here before...

I have a strange, unhealthy relationship with Reese's cups. I'm not a great fan, on the whole, of American sweets/candy. I find them too sweet; the chocolate especially, much too sugary and milky - not enough cocoa. But I do love the cups. Why, I don't know. They ought to be nasty, but they're not.

Hey ho. ::adds an extra 10 minutes to tonight's run::

But it's the weekend folks!!! I have olives from Booths, I have wine, an organic, granary baguette and a really nice looking bit of local goats cheese. And now I have stuffed Lombardi peppers and peanut butter cups, too.

Can life get any better? Well I guess the sun could come out but hey, lets not push it.

LOL! I just put this through my spell-checker, which remains obstinately locked on US spelling, despite all requests to shift itself back to the real (heh heh) dictionary and the only thing it could suggest for 'aubergine' was 'aborigine.'  Aborigines stuffed with goats cheese... Wild!

When my husband moved to the US, two of his biggest complaints were the funny words we use for aubergines and courgettes.

He is clearly a man of sense and good taste. lol!

I don't mind what anyone calls them., just so long as I get to eat em. (o:

I know what you mean about Reese's cups (or as they're most commonly referred to "Reesies"); they shouldn't be as tasty as they are. No other brand quite compares either, and their attempts at diversifying by adding things like cookies, SUCK. They suck big, hairy monkey balls, to quote a former co-worker.

::Homer Simpson voice:: Mmmmm. Big hairy monkey balls...!

I was stunned to see a big basket of them in Aldi of all places (a cheap supermarket chain that happens to have a load of *really* good stuff. It's kind of everyone's guilty secret to shop there. ::G::). You just don't see a lot of American stuff over here. The Reesies (I like that (o:) were next to tubs of something else American; it was called 'Marshmallow creme' (spelled 'creme') - a big tub that weighed almost nothing, so I suspect it's something whipped(?) I checked out the ingredients.. whoa! man...! it makes Twinkies look like algae shake.

I didn't buy any. (o:

Marshmallow Creme or Fluff (same thing, different brand) is one of our ickier creations. *g* I haven't had the stuff since I was a kid. Probably wise not to buy it. ;-)

"Aborigines stuffed with goats cheese..." -LOL This is why I have a mutual love/hate relationship with spell checker. Funny as heck sometimes and others... I truly believe spell-checker was invented by someone whose thesaurus was ravaged by their poodle and therefore only have a hundred words to go by.

Mmmmm....Reese's cups...two are simply a tease and not enough to truly satisfy. Very interesting though, I'm from America and never thought about the differences in sweets between countries. Hubby would love it over there as he isn't into overly sweet things. But goodness does your post make me hungry! haha

Have a wonderful, lazy weekend and take care! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go stand in front of my fridge and hope not too many things have turned into science experiments yet...

Ah... food. I love hearing/reading/knowing about food. It should be so universal, and yet, not. I've had one, just one cup so far. If I get a half-decent run tonight, I'll let myself eat the other two. ::G::

And I see you sneakily posted a fic while I was offline, you angel, you. I'm saving that for bedtime. (o:

"I've had one, just one cup so far." LOL! You are a stronger woman than I. Reese's and truffles are my achilles heel. I usually get Reese's as a treat after grocery shopping at the oh so wonderful wal-mart. *insert heavily, arcenic laced sarcasm here* Of course, that usually calls for the king size pack and they rarely make it home. *snerk*

haha Hope you enjoy it! And you've posted as well. Yaaaay!!! Ah, bliss. :)

Fics and Reese's cups... Life is good.

"You are a stronger woman than I"
I'm currently stuffing my face with goat's cheese, olives, feta-stuffed peppers and wine. Discipline isn;t really coming in to it. (o:

Ah, Walmart - they took over the Asda chain here a couple of years ago. You can't buy Reese's there, though.

Don't you believe it...If my poodle savaged your thesaurus there wouldn't be anything left.....not even a letter. LOL! He's very thorough. *G*

LOL! Your poodle is adorable! And, no, I never underestimate the power and tenacity of little dogs. My grandma has a pomeranian that thinks he's bigger than the german shepard. His attitude maybe...

My dog, a beagle/basset mix and yours could form a powerful team, feared by books, socks, and carpeted stairs everywhere...(yeah, I came home one day to find the carpet on our stairs lying in pile...calming mantras of- "I love my dog, I love my dog," do seem to help.) *snicker*

"My dog, a beagle/basset mix and yours could form a powerful team,"

Oh yeah! Thy dynamic duo of savaged stuff...Nothing is safe from their attentions. Heee! LOL!

Wee doggies have big attitudes all right.

Oh yeah. Aldi can have the strangest things sometimes. We use it quite a lot, and Lidl's too. Hooray for the Reeces....well, some of them. *G*

Have fun. Enjoy your peppers and Merlot.

I fully intend to. (o:

They have a wonderful range of Pestos, too, btw - though I'm sure you know that already. (o:

Ooh I'm jealous - I want me an Aborigine stuffed with goat's cheese - hmmm - wonder if you have to cook them or eat them raw? *g*

The office computer's spell-checker once took against our accountant. Instead of a letter starting 'Dear Rodney', we ended up with one beginning 'Dear Rodent'... thank god we spotted it in time ::shudders::

Go to Australia House, find an Aborigine, feed him with goats cheese till he can't move et... voila!

I'm glad you are having a good evening surrounded by loveliness! I hope you really enjoy it!

I love spell checker - it comes up with some fab things. It likes to make my name 'neuron' and Mally has to have a sex change to Molly apparently!

I hope you're having a gorgeous evening too, hon. Hope you've re-adapted to the time change; it can really mess with your head.

LOL

The word 'aubergine' always confuses me for a sec and I speak French - it always reminds me of the word for whale barf... and I love egg plant and Reese Cups!

You think egg plant sounds better?!

Aubergine - ambergris - ampersand - ambivalence... Hmmm. I'm sure there's a great car game in here somewhere.
