My past rears its ugly head

Here are some pix of Crosstalk; the band wot I used to be in, playing Liverpool Warehouse, summer 1982 - part of the same photo-shoot for Jive! Magazine I posted from earlier.

Crosstalk played the last ever gig at the Liverpool Warehouse (it burned down that night) - I'd say it was widely believed that  Dave C, the manager (who was going out with Janice Long at the time) torched it for the insurance, but I don't believe that (in case his lawyers are reading) (o:

Paul (guitar, vocals) and Mark (bass).

Me, keyboards. Don't know what I was smiling at; not the drunk who got up on stage
and 'helped' me play that night, that's for sure. (o:

A view across stage featuring Mike (drums)'s back. Mike is now a pilot for BA. I really like this shot.

That is so cool, Gilly!! I would love to have had a magazine do professional photos for any of my gigs I've played!! (I play bass in a band out here...we occasionally play around San Diego and Hollywood.) You guys look great! And to have the distinction of being the last band to play a place before it burned to the ground....you can say you brought the house down. lol ;)

Some said it was our dodgy PA that caused the fire... ::G::

And you're a bass player? Always the best looking member of any band. (o:

[identity profile] t-verano.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
God, those are fabulous photos! All of you are gorgeous.

And *so* very cool. Sheesh, being in a band! ::jealous sigh::

(I must have missed the other post you mentioned. ::frowns at self::)

Pic spamming you mightily...

Cool and gorgeous - two of my favourite words, especially when applied to myself (no matter how inappropriately). (o:

Mark went delving for our records yesterday; found one on sale in Japan.

The other picture was just one of Mark and me - it's our anniversary today:

Okay, was that gorgeous pic of you and Mark actually included in your anniversary post at the beginning? I *know* I looked at that post -- heck, I commented on it -- and I so do not remember seeing the pic.

Y'all both are beautiful. (And I also kinda like the artwork conveniently centered behind Mark's head.)

The artwork on the sleeve of the record? Um? ::is clueless, shamefully so::

Hope the cough and sore throat and energy-goneness are disappearing rapidly...

Gorgeous pic??? Are you referring to the contrasty two of us sitting on a sofa at the warehouse? I put it up in response to one of the posts about halfway through so you might well have missed it.

"Y'all both are beautiful. (And I also kinda like the artwork conveniently centered behind Mark's head.)"
Aw sheesh! On Mark, I can concur but yours truly... ick! Naw! ::giggles at the absurdity::
The art was part of a *huge* mural that covered one massive wall - all gone now, of course, since the place burned down.

"The artwork on the sleeve of the record? Um? ::is clueless, shamefully so::"
LOL! It was considered very much the thing at the time - it got us a spot on a BBC documentary on the 'new Merseybeat' (as they were calling it). It was very different from the very graphics-heavy art that was 'in' - different and attention grabbing. It's an illustration from Chatterbox; a 1936 children's annual.

I'm musing on uploading some mps's... Haven't quite plucked up the courage yet. (o:

The infection has degenerated into a really heavy cold that's still laying me low, alas. It's an incredibly vicious bug; it's been with me almost a week now and I still feel awful. But thanks for your concern, honey, it's much appreciated. (o:

OK; back to trying to sort out the mess I've made of the latest Rainbows update before Ancient Greece Night starts on the TV. ::heaves heavy sigh::

Whoa, check your hair! Very 80s. Such a cool thing to have professional pictures to remember that time by. :)

"check your hair! Very 80s."
I was just saying the same thing!

[identity profile] sassyinkpen.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
These are SO COOL!! That must have been a lot of fun :)

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was - on occasion. she qualified, remembering what it was like to travel in the back of the van with the drum kit. There are real disadvantages to being the smallest).

Pics From the Past

[identity profile] kayjay206.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Those pictures are gorgeous! (And you look so sweet! How old were you?)

I graduated from high school in '82, so the early 80s were a time of awakening for me in some ways. Transition from quiet college town to urban area, from high school to college. My boyfriend at the time was very into punk and alternative music, so these scenes, and the year, evoke memories of that for me! A hard time in many ways, but a lot of good stuff too... ::reminisces::

Thanks for posting these! It's fun to get these little glimpses of someone else's past now and then. :-)

"And you look so sweet! How old were you?"
I was 22 - but Sweet? Hmmm.... (o:

They were good times. I've been planning a novel based on being in a band in Liverpool in the 80's; about a party my roomie and I threw that ended with her burning our flat down (am I sensing a theme here?) Maybe I'll even write it one day. ::G::

And you have a Village People Jim icon! ::yearns::

Village People Jim...

[identity profile] kayjay206.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And you have a Village People Jim icon! ::yearns::

Hee! I made it all by myself. ;-) I couldn't resist using it here, given the theme of your post (and the title! Past Rears its Ugly Head ::giggle::). I'm pretty proud of that one, not bad for an early effort! Thanks for commenting. It's shareable, so grab it if you want! (I could even add a caption of your choice, if you'd like.) ::is babbling because someone noticed her icon!!!::

Re: Village People Jim...

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Village People is one of my favourite Jims. (o:

Urm, caption... I'm so totally bad at captions. I'm open to suggestions.

Re: Village People Jim...

[identity profile] kayjay206.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well for something funny, a few song titles from the Village People's Best Of album kinda work:
"Ready for the 80's"
"Hot Cop"
and *my* favorite... "Macho Man"

Or Pendergrast's line: "Lose the earring!"

Or something more pensive like: "Haunted by the Past..."

Any of those tickle your fancy?

Ready for the 80's... ::giggle::

Oh, they're all good. (o:

[identity profile] chriselora55.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Really cool pics Gilly. Or as we say in Glasgow, Pure dead brilliant!
Love your hair too.

Thank you for sharing.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for your kind words, hon, but the hair was of its time - say no more. (o:

[identity profile] arnie1967.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I only recognise you in the last pic - and I mean from all the pics you've posted, including the one in your last post. That's because that thing you do with your hair is a habit you've still got. :oD

Lovely pics. Thanks for sharing!

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well it was 25 years ago! I'm bound to have changed a bit. (o: That ,and my hair is a completely different colour. (o:

They are good pics aren't they? I'd completely forgotten about them till Mark dug them out.

[identity profile] therentgirls.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
How awesome are these pictures! During the early eighties I lived on the road with a new wave band (future hubby was a drummer) and it was a fantastic time. These pictures brought back wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing, hon.
~V~

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yay! Another ex-bandy! ::G:: The pictures are great, aren't they? There are loads of them, too. I might print a few up for future cherishing. (o:

The drummer, huh? Good upper body strength; lots of stamina, but usually a tad deranged, in my experience. ::titter::

[identity profile] suemc.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Great pictures, love the hair

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, what is it with everyone and the hair??! ::G::

That hair is nothing, believe me. I must find some pix where it's jet black, back-combed up on end and tied with rags. It's really quite startling. (o:

[identity profile] luna-61.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Wow what great pictures!! Thanks for posting them.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'm glad you enjoyed them.

I love that icon. It has a vaguely cartoony look. It reminds me of 'Deaf Ted, Danoota and Me' from 'In his own Write'. (o:

[identity profile] laurie-ky.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Neat pics. and just out of curiousity how many other buildings you've been associated with have gone up in flames?

Heh heh heh. Can't think of another conflagration offhand. If another comes to mind, I'll let you know.

[identity profile] shiredancer.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'll chime in too -- they really *are* great pics, and it sounds like it was a fabulous time. Bet you have a lot of good memories and some *very* interesting tales to tell.

The 80s hair is awesome, but the other look you described has got to be posted -- I want to see that (of course, I haven't the slightest idea how you look now?).

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
"but the other look you described has got to be posted "
Oh dear... ::giggles nervously:: I'll try and find a pic. the only one I can think of right now is a passport picture in which I'm glaring aggressively at the camera - it'll take some finding but I'll have a try.

"of course, I haven't the slightest idea how you look now?"
::sigh:: I am greatly changed... Life has not been kind. (o: There are some pix of me at the Garett thing here in the UK last year. I'm sure Fluterbev posted some... ::goes off to look::
Yup, there you go...

I'm in the embroidered orange top and black jeans.

[identity profile] shiredancer.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, you look great! I wish Bev had identified more of the people in the pics for that -- I've met a rather surprising number of them, but I want to know which one is Sarah (Arnie)! But then, not everybody *wants* to be identified in online pics.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, you look great!"
Kind of you to say so but I have to confront that face in the mirror every day. I harbour no illusions. (o:

Ah, well, I do know what Sarah/Arnie looks like (she lives about a 20 minute drive from me) but does she *want* to be id'd?

She's in the pix; she was on our table... (have a guess! ::G::)
