I went for a walk in the woods today; these woods, with the deer and the woodpeckers and just filled with life; the ones someone compared to Middle Earth. Guess what? They're gone, or, at least, a huge chunk of them; clear-felled; gone. It looks like a war-zone up there with mud and deep gouged caterpillar tracks and just a whole load of nothing.

Geez. I'm numb and angry and just so stunned. At least I feel ready to move now, I've been putting it off, putting it off - now I just want to sell the house and get out as soon as I can.

I've fired off a bunch of enraged emails but I feel so fucking helpless. Gods, I'm so depressed. I really didn't think Chorley Borough Council were capable of sinking any lower in my estimation. I was wrong. Despicable bunch of c****

I can't even imagine. And as much as I hate it, at least they post notices here before they clearcut an entire ecosystem...and here, if a tree is over 50 years old you need to have city council permission to cut it down, first, and to their credit they usually tell builders to suck it up and build around them.

Oh, Gilly, that makes me sick. What's going to be left after we throw away all these irreplacable places?

Oh my god....I'm just horrified. Those are so beautiful.

I know that stunned and numb and angry feeling - I felt it a couple years ago when my son called to tell us he'd just gotten home from school and seen that the road crew had cut down ALL the trees on our corner. I was livid. I knew some needed to be trimmed back for visibility, but they just shaved the land.

Oh babe! I'm looking out the window at 'my' woods, and thinking how I would feel if they were bulldozed - I'd want off the planet at the very least. I have no words - except I'm so so sorry. Time to move on love. ::hugs you long and hard::

OMIGOD that is horrible! How COULD they? What a complete bunch of a**holes! Damn!

I don't know how anyone could even give permission for that to happen! What shortsightedness! Damn again! =<{

So horrible! I, too, have no words -- I'm so sorry.

Aw, Gilly -- that is awful beyond compare. How truly shocking, and demoralizing, and utterly sad. *Hugs*

oh, God, that's awful! I really do feel for you. Such a waste and it can never grown back as it was.

Aw, hon, I'm so sorry. What an awful thing, and such an awful way to find out, too - to be just totally shocked like that and just find them all gone. ::hugs::

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that, they were lovely. You must feel devastated. Isn't there such a thing as a tree preservation order in your area? We can't cut down a single tree without jumping through endless hoops, justifying etc. {{ hugs }}
