Withnell pic spam (part 2)

[personal profile] vamysteryfan asked for...

http://pics.livejournal.com/gillyp/pic/0002rc6c

The view from the front door - not very exciting I'm afraid. That's the arse-end of our Skoda, btw.

for [personal profile] vamysteryfan and [personal profile] mrs_tilford, here's the nest from the front (+ the rest of the car). (o:

Withnell from the fields between us and Abbey Village (our house is one of the back row of houses on the far left)

The image “http://pics.livejournal.com/gillyp/pic/0002xy6p” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Withnell from the hills in front of the house. That's part of the sawmill dominating the picture, our house is behind, obscured by trees.

Withnell from Bury Lane. Our house is right in the middle of the pic, 3rd from the left of the terrace (mostly obscured by the mill)

Withnell from the moors above the house. Our house isn't on this picture, it's on the other side of the field on the right of the pic.

[personal profile] ringbark wanted the dining table and bedside table. I don't really have a dining table as such (we tend to eat on our knees) but here's the kitchen table where we eat on the rare occasions when we have guests...

And... [personal profile] betagoddess is asking for lots of window pix, so I'll start a new post for the rest.

Yes, that's just what I was looking for, thank you. That's the same cake we saw before, isn't it?

Yes indeedy. (o:

Happy to oblige - why anyone wants to see this stuff is beyond me, but it amused me for an hour or two. *g*

[identity profile] betagoddess.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)

I just LOVE posts of my friends' homes. Thanks.

Looking forward to my window views. *g*

What fun!! My dear, you are an artiste with your camera! Hills and green stuff and winding roads. And your curved entrance is so romantic! And a saw mill!!

You mustn't feel stalked, but I'm going now to find Withnell on the map. (I just love looking at maps!)

::MrsTilford rummages about for the atlas::

Re: I'm an artiste??

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh. *G*

I guess beauty's in the eye of the beholder! I can't see anything the least bit romantic in my house which is just an old mill-worker's cottage, but I'm more than happy that it seems romantic to you!

Did you find us on the map? I like google maps myself; I like their satellite images + local photos.

So, where are you?

Hello, again.

[identity profile] mrs-tilford.livejournal.com 2008-06-29 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I was doing a bit of LJ housekeeping just now and realized that, somehow, I never did respond to your comment, above, and now here it is end of June, and here I am again. And I have a favor to ask of you, if you don't mind.

First, where I am: U.S., Tennessee, Coffee County, Tullahoma, population c. 20,000. Tullahoma is SSE of Nashville, 65 miles as the crow flies, a bit farther if the crow is driving a 12-year-old van on the interstate. The name, Tullahoma, is an old, old native American word: "Tulla", meaning "mud" and "homa", meaning "more mud". (Hmm. That may have been funnier back in the days before we paved over everything.)

Second, yes, I found Withnell (Chorley?) on my tiny atlas map and then on the Google map (which is sometimes hard to follow because you can't get a zoom-in and zoom-out picture at the same time). Google is great except for that one failing: I can't put one finger here and my other finger there and get an idea of where you are in relation to the rest of the country. My short term memory is pitiful, and by the time I've located one place, I've forgotten where I started!

Which actually brings me to the favor-asking I mentioned above. I really do need to get a poster-sized-or-larger map of the U.K., but I don't know from whom to get it. Since you are a lover of maps, I thought perhaps you could point me in the direction of a reputable mapmaker with a website from which I could order, without you going to a lot of trouble.

I'll be very grateful for any information you can give me. Thanks and {{hugs!}}, and whenever I get my longed-for digital camera, I'll send you pix of my front door! *bg*

Gosh, I have no idea I'm afraid. If I were after a map I'd go to Waterstones or somewhere like that. Are there no bookshops near where you live?
You could try the Ordinance Survey - though their maps are probably more detailed than you're looking for. Ebay...?

I'd just try googling if I were you, because all I'm getting my end are a ton of UK-based links which are no use to you.

[identity profile] mrs-tilford.livejournal.com 2008-06-29 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing in the area in the way of a shop that carries big maps. Looks like a 70-mile trip is in my future or, as you said, Google.

Thanks for your efforts - they're much appreciated. ;^)

Your house from the front surprised me - it's very different to anything you'd see here (which shouldn't be surprising!).

Lovely shots of the surrounding area.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It did? It's entirely and unsurprisingly typical for around here. *g*

Any chance of a look at your place? ::she asked, batting eyelashes, smiling sweetly::

This is mine

The majority of houses in Australia are brick, but this kind of weatherboard transportable house is common in rural areas, at the lower end of the market anyway! They're manufactured in the city and delivered in two pieces on trucks, then joined at the middle when they get to their destination!

I don't think I've ever seen an Australian house with stonework like yours has. It's very attractive!

[identity profile] snycock.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Your house is so cute and sweet from the outside, all the stonework is just lovely!

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Cute and sweet? ::laughing like a loon:: It's a very typical little two up two down terraced house, imo, but hey - if you think it's lovely, I'm cool with that. *g* The stone walls are wonderful, I agree - they're 2 feet thick; the house is always warm in winter and cool in summer. We have a lot of exposed stone inside, too.

But if you're coming over in October, you'll be staying, won't you(?) - so at least you know what you're letting yourself in for. (o:

[identity profile] jessriley.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for sharing these. I'm going to get to the UK, eventually *g* and I'm heading straight to the countryside. It looks just magical. ::dream, dream::

It looks just magical.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'm glad you think so tho having seen your view, I'd say Withnell can't begin to compare. If you're planning a trip, his is a nice time of year to come, late May, early June - it's always lovely, even if the weather isn't. (o:

[identity profile] miwahni.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Gorgeous and charming and thank you so much for posting these. It's lovely to see so much green around, too; everything here is parched and yellow-brown, almost crisp.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it's bound to be green on account of ALL THE SODDING RAIN that never ceases emptying itself on us whenever the time of year. (o;

I'm sure where you live is beautiful in its brown crispyness. Pix..? (o:

[identity profile] miwahni.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Will see what I can do over the next few days. Itt was actually raining here today so things might start to green up a bit. Hope so - my back lawn crunches underfoot.
