So much talk of politics on the flist

Not terribly surprising really, I suppose. I know you get more right-wing as you get older but I still know all the words to the Red Flag. Vive la chardonnay revolution, say I ::waves fist in air in a rather half-hearted, embarrassed and English fashion:: Has anyone seen my copy of The New Statesman? I'm sure I left it lying around here somewhere. Under this plate of olives and the Pie D'Anglois perhaps...

Hee! I am too. In fact, I think our scores are almost identical. They do say you get more conservative as you age but, you know, I don't think that's true for women. Certainly not the women in my family; we have tended to get more radical and that's three generation's of women for sure.

Well I...

Come from a long line of Socialist activists and lived in Cuba for 9 years so you could say my stance has softned with age. *g*

ahh, finally another socialist on here! :D let's unite and kill them righties. the extreme-right party in my country is on its way to become the biggest party. they're second now, with about 1/4 of the votes.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
At least you can still tell the difference, here you just don;t know who's left/right, red/blue - whatever - anymore.

[identity profile] ledh.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, but we have so much parties to chose from! you're basically limited to two parties in GB, right?

have a look :) ("Flemish interest" is extreme right, fiy. and "cd&nv" is neutral right, "vld" is neutral left, "spa" is socialist, and green is extreme left) those i just summed up are just the biggest flemish parties. they all have wallonian counterparts.

does that meme really apply to you, though? as a UK citizen, i mean. i'm under the impression that it's really an (modern) American quiz. i know when i take it i come out Libertarian.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see why not. Opinions and attitudes aren't nation-specific and the questions seem pretty general to me. Plenty of my UK flist have taken it - they've all come out all socialists. But then the UK is, in general, more left-leazning than the US. But then most of the Americans on my flist have also come out Socialist, so maybe not.

But I have no problems at all calling myself a Socialist, if that's what you're asking. It's what I am, for sure.

Re: does that meme really apply to you, though?

[identity profile] boogieshoes.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
ok, i was just wondering, precisely because i know UK politics - and probably mainland Europe politics, too - tend to be lefter than US. so i can see someone going 'but i'm a conservative!' if they *are*, according to the UK spectrum, but would still test out liberal/ democrat on the US spectrum.

myself, and most of my non-fannish flist are libertarian. we just sound more conservative because we tend to vote to keep our guns. i wish 'keeping our guns' didn't seem to go hand in hand with 'idiotic religiosity enshrined in stupid laws', though.

Really.

I've read your flist on occassion. I don't think they and I would find much to agree about. I'd rather keep our discussions fannish.

no argument. i usually stay away from political posts because i get 'caught in the middle', as it were. i only mention it now because, well, election time. but i get over the political urge pretty quickly - it doesn't take much.

so, how are the husband and kids? you have kids, right?

This was a quite interesting test. I don't know how accurate it really is, but I think it got me - more or less - right. :)
