Utterly and completely and I've only done the kitchen and it's half past eight and I've only just sat down for some beans on toast - I've no energy for culinary feats of derring-do tonight.

For yes indeedy, we're back in Withnell, trying to put the house back together after the exertions of the last several weeks. I was hoping to do all of downstairs today but the kitchen took forever - mainly because the stove was being recalcitrantly rusty.  I had to cut and mount a fire brick, replace various bits of fire cement and scrape off so much rust. ::sigh:: Yhe poor old dear's on her last legs, it has to be said, the roof and side of  the oven are starting to split - it's only a matter of time - but she'll do for now.

Chimney sweep's a comin' tomorrow - early (way too early IM oh so HO) and the Double Glazing Men of Action will replace my beloved door with something plastic and anonymous  tomorrow afternoon.

I've washed all the throws (kisses beloved Whirlpool which can cope with anything - even hand-woven Peruvian blankets, Indian throws that say 'wash by hand in cold water' and cushions that scream 'dry clean only' (rather rudely, imo) at you in big red letters. ::kisses beloved machine again. Is (allegedly) heard mumbling 'I loves you I DO!' at it's one, huge eye::

This time tomorrow, the stove will be lit and we'll be back in the comfort of out sitting room. Tonight, there is NO TELLY (yes, you heard that right) for everything has been re-wired in favour of the downstairs set-up including the signal booster, without which you can't pick up nothin' in these here parts that have a bloody big moor in front of 'em, damn it's heathery-hide. ::waves fist vaguely in direction of Bolton::

so. There is no telly! ::Stares morosely at dark screen:: Thank god for DVDs and Steve Coogan.

::exits in search of wine and 'I am not an Animal'::

Mood:: 'exanimate' exanimate
Music:: silence! O:
location: The bedroom, Withnell

How did you go with that vile ooze that kept coming through the paintwork? Were you able to successfully cover it? (It brings to mind the Amityville house!)

...The several layers of plaster and paint seem to have held it at bay, for now at least (thank you for asking) (o:

Sitting room's more or less done now - we still don't have the pictures up or books on shelves or knick knacks up but things are getting slowly back to normal.

I loathe the new back door with a passion but I expect I'll get used to it eventually. ::sighs heavily::

Fingers crossed that your "fix" lasts a while, then.
It's always a shame when you have to replace something like your door that's original, and has history, wtith something soulless and modern.
