I went for a walk in the snow.

I should be working but what the heck, it's SNOWING, man!

It was a wee biut too snowy and treacherous underfoot to go tramping through forests and moors so I went for a stroll down the back of the house...

Where there's a path that was a railway line till 1963.

Just a path now though.

SNOW SQUEE!!!

It's still coming down hard out there.

These pix might have uploaded out a wee bit larger than I intended - sorry! Not dial-up friendly, for sure.

Oh, those are wonderful! especially for those of us stuck in the sub-tropics :)

I do love the snow.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The sub-tropics have their charm but I think I'm genetically predisposed to a cold climate, I don't do well in the heat.

Enjoy your weather, whatever it is today. :o) - we're getting the impression from the news that the US was having an uber-cold snap. I guess it's not reached that far south. *g*

Well, the locals are complaining because it is getting in the 30s (f) at night. I myself could do with a bit more winter! But then, I liked living in Chicago :)

Re: Chicago...

definitely has the UK beat when it comes to cold weather. ::nods::

Those are really lovely. I like the one of the bridge

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that picture of the bridge with the view of the path beyond. I was really happy with how it turned out.

Aren't you all snowy yourself hon?

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, ohhhh the pics are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing :-)

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I love snow! *G*

(6.45 and it's still snowing! ::meep!::)

[identity profile] luicat.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooohhh! Pretty piccies!
And no, we have no snow here.
Boo.
:o)

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No snow? Oh no! ::pets the lui:: It's been snowing heavily all afternoon, there's about 6 inches out there now and it's still coming down. ::wibble::

Oh wow - look at the pretty! We has no snow. We is sulking. It did sorta snow for a bit this afternoon, but it was that big fat wet sort that doesn't stick. No good at all. I love your pics, especially the railway bridge.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You no snow either? I weep for you! It was weird, one minute raining, next minute I looked out the windy and there was 4" of it on the ground.

I expect it'll all be gone by tomorrow but it was nice while it lasted.

[identity profile] betagoddess.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)

How beautiful it all looks. I absolutely love the one of the train tunnel. May I "borrow" it and a couple of others for my wallpaper slide show? Pretty please with maple sugar on top? *g*

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be thrilled and honoured if you used my pix babe.

It came down at such a rate, quite took me by surprise. I expect it'll all be gone tomorrow but it was nice while it lasted.

[identity profile] betagoddess.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)

Thanks so much! I love the pix! =>}

Our snow (of which we got 10 cm more last night) is probably here for the duration, although once in awhile we get a thaw in February, but I don't think that would melt all we have at this point. =>}

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Weather here is nothing of not changeable. It could be 20' tomorrow - unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

[identity profile] betagoddess.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)

Tis true. I really, really DO love our Winter here. =>}

[identity profile] banbury.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! It looks fantastic! We've had snowfall too, but there aren't many places to be that spectacular.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
We haven't had much snow here for many years so we get all excited when we get some. It'll probably all melt tomorrow but I enjoyed it while it was here. :o)

I would think your snow would be much prettier than ours.

[identity profile] mab-browne.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Very cold in person, I don't doubt, but the pictures are surreally ethereal.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
I love the cold, love frost and snow. Hate the rain which is set to return sometime today, sadly. ::heaves a sad sigh::

It's gorgeously sunny out there now but snow's all melting now alas.

[identity profile] arjuna-lj.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Beautiful! and I'd rather 'ave some of that than the 33 degrees pre-thunderstorm I've been chasing rugrats around in all day :)

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. I lived in a tropical climate for years and I never really got to like it. I think I'm genetically predisposed to the cold. *g* 33 degrees, huh...? O:!

[identity profile] arjuna-lj.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
*grin* I wouldn't call ye olde Bungendore "tropical" - far from it. But we are having a bit of a muggy summer"...

[identity profile] boogieshoes.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
love the pics - reminds me of home. the first one especially is artistic - i'd recommend blowing it up and framing it, because it's not everyday you snap a pic like that.

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So, where's home?

Thanks for the kindly comments, chuck! It's not that often we get this kind of weather these days so it was fun to re-live the old days and go walking in the snow.

[identity profile] boogieshoes.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
'home' is the greater St Louis area - i say greater because there's a county on the IL side of the Mississippi River that's functionally one big suburb of the city. there's also a town called Alton in that county that has this park with these beautiful old trees. you go there in the fall and shuffle through a carpet 6 inches thick of leaves - all reds, golds, and oranges - it's amazing. winter in that area tends towards a little more snow than the rest of the place, because it's so close to the river. seeing the park in winter is just amazing.

long comment, but that's immediately what i thought of when i saw that first picture - it gave me this 'coming home' feeling, which i totally value and treasure. so i owe you a debt of thanks! :-D

Well gosh golly, you're more than welcome!

[identity profile] shiredancer.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, those are truly gorgeous pics -- definitely frame-worthy. And that's a *stile* on that fence by the gate, isn't it? Believe it or not, there are not stiles here -- I've only seen them in England. *Nostalgic*

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you enjoyed them - no skill involved on my part, really; it really was just that lovely out there.

There are a lot of stiles around here but that's not one, just a gate.

there are not stiles here
Interesting. I suppose... ::thinks:: I don't think you have the same tradition of ancient rights of way and public footpath laws - or maybe I'm wrong? Stiles can be more than a tad annoying tbh, if you've got dicky knees or a dog with you. *g*
