New Aga squee!!!

The chaps arrived from Hereford at the most un-godly hour of 7.30am but at least we got it all out of the way nice and early.

So the new!-shiny! is free-standing in the kitchen now till the builder comes back from sunning himself in Portugal to fit it, which is a bit of a pain but will have to be dealt with with fortitude and grace. It's very new! and shiny! and BLUE! and terribly exciting.

But OMG! Look at what we found when they brought the old one out! O:!!! Exactly like the wreck of the Titanic, but in slightly worse condition. To think we've had a fire going in this thing night and day for years.

Anyway, NEW-SHINY! is here, if far from up and running. Next up, Bolton Aga-Man arrives (hopefully), no doubt looking relaxed and tanned and does the thing with the cement and the plumbing and sets it all up so we can start cooking with it and picking the purty tiles for the splash back and put back the concealed lighting and - oh, everything. I can't wait to light a fire in her and start cooking (squeee!!!)

And we found the long lost toasting fork down the back! It's all just win win win. *G*

I have AGA envy!!!

heh heh heh!

When, with the increasingly desperate state of the old one, it became obvious we'd have to replace it, we did briefly ponder switching to a normal cooker and normal central heating but it just wouldn't have been right, somehow. Aga's rule, deed they do. They're so warm in the morning. :o)

The old one was black, this is a lovely Tardis blue. I can't stop staring at it. *g*

Love the old one - I could see a whole fiction based around it! And the "new" one - so very early 20th century! Do you actually have to light a fire in it to get it started? The color is amazing - Jim zoning on it because it matches Blair's eyes.... (am I obsessed or what?) In any case, I'm happy for you, and glad you survived what apparently was a conflagration-in-waiting.

Do you actually have to light a fire in it ...?

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It runs on fire, wood or coal, light the fire, keep it going, like a vestal virgin. *g*

Blair's eyes. ::snerk. chortle::

It is beautiful, yes :)

And isn't it always scary when you haul out something that old and that... well, old? (I recall the last aircon unit came out in rusted shards...)

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know, removing the old freezer was... interesting. :o) But the state of the old stove O:! And this was still doing our cooking, heating our water, running our central heating until a few short weeks ago. Terrifying, yet somehow impressive and admirable. ::nods::

The new one SHINES so! I can't help keep nipping into the kitchen to smile at it. :oD

I've always thought these were marvelous creatures, but does your kitchen not become somewhat warm in the summertime? I barely even use my regular stove in the summer...

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
We usually let it go out for the summer but summers here are short (and this year practically non existent). I know people who leave theirs running but in a small cottage like this, it gets way too oppressive when the weather's warm.

OMG - the poor old one must've been on its last legs.

I love the new one - so shiny and blue. Is it a he or a she?

Hope the wee chappie gets back from crisping himself soon and plugs you in to whatever needs plugging - you must be dying to get it lit. So glad it's gone well - and you found the toasting fork too! Wheeeee! *g*

That huge hole under the smoke box! No wonder the poor thing wouldn't draw in its latter years. I'm amazed the house hasn;t burned to the ground. O:! They gave us £100 for the privilege of taking it away, too (which is £5 more than we paid for it. heh)

I haven't sexed it yet, I've found myself he'ing and she'ing when talking about it; I'm sure all will become clear over time. ::nods::

I'm amazed the house hasn;t burned to the ground.

My friends had an oil-fired Aga that leaked oil into its vitals while they were away on holiday for a few days - it sort of did a very slow burn and didn't actually burst into flames, but every room in the house was covered in a thick coat of black oily soot. They were weeks (and a lot of mates) washing and cleaning. ::shudder::

So this post is an Aga saga? *g* It is indeed a Tardis sort of blue (and yes, so shiny) - a cooker that's bigger on the inside might be interesting to deal with....

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I love these Aga sagas of which you (often) speak. *g* I've never read one myself, are they usually about crumbling, rusted metal being hauled about by huge, shaven-headed, tattooed men with west-country accents?

I likes me the idee of a Tardis-stove the colour of Blair's eyes. You wanna write this? :o)

[identity profile] mab-browne.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Tardis-stove

It would certainly add a whole new 'dimension' to Hansel and Gretel.

add a whole new 'dimension'

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Oh! I see what you did there!!!!

Re: add a whole new 'dimension'

Well, since I madly sign-posted it, I should bloody well hope so. *g*

You were expecting subtlety??

[identity profile] the4ts.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You have a (new) Aga?!? You have a blue Aga???!!!

I may just hate you a little ;)

Don't hate me!

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's a Rayburn really - an actual Aga wouldn't fit well in my wee cottage, and it's reconditioned rather than brand spanky, but it's the nearest I'm ever going to come I think (and OMG! so shiny and blue!) I'm insanely excited but have to wait for the Aga man to come home from the Algarve before it'll be fitted. In the meantime, I'm fighting my way past it in the middle of the kitchen. :o)

[identity profile] banbury.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! It looks so classy! I can smell wonderful things you'll cook with it soon :-)

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2009-08-06 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm more excited than is healthy, for sure. 8g*
