A Child of God; it's up at my website and 852 (I never can get italics to work at 852. WHY??? But at least I got the chapter dividers to work for me this time, avoiding the mess I made when I posted Wind Whispering and Chasing Rainbows. ::shakes head with the horror::)

Blair's search for his father uncovers a dark, long hidden secret.

It takes place after Spare Parts and is a sad little tale of dirty secrets and massive angst. And it's slash - not hugely so, but there is some J/B sex in it, so be warned if that's not your thing. There are other warnings too, as i say, this is a fairly angsty tale.

This is the story I wrote for the very wonderful Mariojoe, who won it for Moonridge 2006. her patience and kindness knows no bounds.

Oh, can't wait to read it! I'm bookmarking as I'm heading out but it sounds great.

I have trouble with long sections of italics...

I hope you like it. It's quite introspective and angsty, with a lot of 1st person. It won't be to everyone's taste, that's for sure.

I'm fighting to catch up after a week fraught with computer trouble... I keep finding fic on LJ! ::is bursting with squee::

Oh LJ, I have missed you so!

I just read it , it's beautiful, insightful, and it sounds right. I guess every one who had lost a parent and to forgive him/her may be quite touched by this story. I also love the nuance of spirituality in it.
Your story remind me about the Donkey Skin tale by Perrault, same condition, same menace, same solution, with a big difference : the incest that leads Blair to be born.
Great story. Thanks.

I don't know that one - I just made a brief search but couldn't find it; do you have a link? I'd love to read it.

Oh, gilly, wow. That was a beautifully written story. Your grasp on the characters, the feelings you portrayed and the way you gave us a glimpse into Jim's thoughts about Blair and what he meant to him was so very well done.

I must admit I haven't been reading much Sentinel fiction of late, (for various reasons) but I'm feeling very satisified right about now and think I'm starting to rekindle my love for these guys.

posted by [identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com at 09:15am on 07/07/2007
Well, dang! Anything that helps you rekindle the love has to be a good thing!

Gosh...

Thanks *so* much for your lovely words! I'm just... speechless... (this almost never happens). I was more than a wee bit worried as to how people would take this story, its theme being so very heavy. I've been kindling this bunny for the longest time; it's always been my #1 theory for how Blair came to be. It fits all the secrecy, Naomi's oddness (o: - flitting from relationship to relationship; but I put off writing it because I thought it would be too hard. It did take me an awfully long time. (o:

I'm just gurgling with the squee right now. All FB is wonderful but it's even better when it comes from a writer I love and admire as much as you.

Thanks *so* much. ::slobbers all over you like a big, wet, smelly dawg::

I feel blessed to be a speed reader because there's been so much excellent fic this weekend.

I enjoyed the way that the secret became clear to the readers pretty early in the piece while Blair was still ignorant of the situation. I liked poor Jim's anger and compassion together for Naomi, that she shared the big secret with him, and it made a useful explanation for her personality as shown in canon. So, yeah, good story. *g*

Juts finished and wow, that's a very powerful, sad and moving story. It must have been hard to write but it was so well done.

The mystery of Blair's father is something I've always found fascinating -- and it's difficult to see someone like Blair not being curious so it was good to get a plausible solution to the puzzle.

Loved the interweaving points of view and that you used Naomi's as well; really worked for the fic.

I'm really glad you liked it.

As I said to Jess, I've been feeding this bunny for years - I knew it'd be a tough one to write and I was more than a bit worried how people might take the subject matter. It's always seemed the most plausible reason for... well, everything, it seems to me; the fact Naomi hasn't told Blair who his father is, Naomi's behaviour, Blair's apparent lack of curiosity...

It was incredibly difficult to write (it started out all 1st person; I gave that up pretty quickly though; whoa that was hard! (o:), and it seemed to take *forever* to finish so, I'm really glad you feel it works.

Thanks for the kind words. It's always great to get such nice fb from a writer I admire so much.

What a difficult story premise and yet you handled it beautifully! Psychologically you hit on an explanation for Naomi and Blair's relationship with the 'secret father', Naomi's restless searching and her 'detach with love' philosophy. And you managed to make them all, even the incestuous rapist, sympathetic characters. This dark secret shaped their physical lives, their characters and identities, even their basic philosophy of life; I really appreciated your look into an explanation for how this set of characters came to be. And I really applaud your portrait of Jim, really trying to do the right thing, and be the best he can be to support Blair through this difficult painful assay into his unknown heritage. Just a really wonderful involving read. Well done!

Gosh... Thanks! It's hard to know what to say in response, but, I'm incredibly pleased you liked it that much, and everything you've specifically mentioned; the sympathetic grandfather/father, the psychology behind Naomi's restless wandering, her shifting relationships - these were the key points that I wanted to come through – especially the Grandfather. It would‘ve been much easier to make him a villain but I really didn’t want to do that, I wanted him to be likeable and human and as much a victim as Naomi.

As I've said to everyone, I nursed this bunny for years, half-afraid to write it because a) it's a difficult subject and I wasn't sure how people would take it and b) because I knew it would be hard to do (it was!). I’ve always felt it was a plausible explanation for Naomi’s behaviour, especially not telling Blair who his father was.

So, thank you so much for your lavish praise ::basks:: Really, really kind words, thank you so much! ::is grinning like a loon::

That's one gorgeous icon you have there, btw. Young Garett... sigh. ::is in total awe of the pritty::

Good grief woman; that was wonderful, fabulous, brilliant. Plus you made me cry, dammit ::waves hankie::

I love the way you intertwine the personal perspectives with the story; and the story itself - just wonderful.

The end, with Naomi coming to terms with herself and her father - it was hard to read, but also so real.

I'm going to gush if I'm not careful *g* Thanks for a fabulous read - it's a real keeper.
