There's still a lot of snow around but the roads are mostly clear so we decided to give it a go and -

We're home (huzzah)! Stove and fire are lit, the chill is lifting, I have my favourite wine and an embarrassment of cheese and other goodly delights for later so life is good and - OMG! people! The Complete Seinfeld box set with oodles of extras and the coffee table book!!!! ::does excited little shimmy:: Almost worth turning the page on yet another decade. *g*

And I finally managed to take down the Christmas decorations, only 9 days late. How much bad luck do you think that equals? :o)

5 hours editing the novel - you know, the one I thought I'd finished which I printed out and started checking and... oh dear.

Anyway, the tree is up! We are about to embark on the lights. Please pray for us.

From a mostly inter-netless few days of DNS bitchery, followed by a weekend of birthday squee at alibongo 's place where we donned platforms and mascara and got down to the Glitter Band and Earth Wind and Fire, drank Cinzano and lemonade, ate trifle and devilled eggs and generally grooved to life's starry (such beautiful clear skies! Where were you last week when I needed you?) groove.

My ASJ homies Louise and suemc were there, of course but it was mostly a motley collection of non-fandom people mainly of the archaeological persuasion. I did meet one terrific fanboy in a curly wig and pink Lennon specs and had a most pleasant conversation about Doctor Who and The Prisoner over a slice of chocolate wacky-cake and some Blue Nun.

Anyway, all very pleasing but now I'm trying to get my head together for some serious work on the novel for the next two days before our return to Yorkshire. I hope you've all been good in my absence, or if you couldn't quite manage good, I hope you've all been terribly interesting.

I've still not finished the 2nd draft, a major disappointment as I was rather hoping to have had the submission ready and have it out to agents this weekend (she laughed in a hollow fashion). It's taking way longer than I'd thought because I keep running into wee holes that need filling so it's been at most, a chapter a day. Only two to go now though but nothing will be done over the weekend as I'm heading in an easterly direction for alibongo 's Abigail's Party. An evening of kaftans and platforms, Miner's blue eyeshadow and Blue Nun, Twiglets, Cinzano and bits of cheese and pineapple stuck in a grapefruit, Marc and David and Bootsy Collins. Some Demis Roussos might creep in there too, but no olives (because they'e horrible, aren't they? Nobody likes olives, Lawrence.)

It is going to be awesome. It has to be, how could it not?

And now it's time for cocoa and bed. Sleep tight, shipmates.
